Karim Habib returns to BMW as head of exterior design

habibThe man who was responsible for the design of the current F01 BMW 7 Series as well as the Concept CS from 2007, Karim Antoine Habib, has returned to BMW from Daimler, and will take up the position as Head of Exterior Design, BMW Automobiles from March 2011.

Habib replaces Anders Warming, who has been named as the new design chief at Mini. Habib had previously spent 10 years of his career working for BMW, holding various posts in interior and exterior design, and was the chief designer in Advanced Design when he left for Daimler in 2009.

The Lebanese-born designer’s return to the fold brings him back to working alongside BMW design chief Adrian van Hooydonk, who is looking forward to resuming the collaboration. Perhaps the design language at Mercedes wasn’t exactly Habib’s cup of tea?

Speaking of BMW design, the F10 5-Series won the latest 2011 iF design awards recently. Other cars that won in the 2011 iF awards include the Kia Sportage and the Kia Optima.

They announced a whole bunch of things as a prelude to their display at Detroit 2010… it’s the usual pre-motorshow info blitz. I’m writing the 1-Series Coupe facelift story now too, so one more coming up! :)

BMW is the biggest luxury car maker, so more news from them is normal. And in Malaysia BMW’s also has a very big luxury car market shares.

Yep but the response from the 3 + 1 stories still cannot match the number of comments on one much more cheaper marques. Things that make you go hmmmm..

…old Design boss moved to Mini…. wow, I wonder really what is there to design at Mini? LOL.

More variants of the mini beyond the “classic”, convertible and the Traveller?

I like the F10. BMW finally got it in thier head that the E60 being showy doesn’t always work for a BMW. They finally got the BMW design DNA back. Perhaps the hugh market share grab by Audi got them thinking.

    • The head of design at Hyundai/KIA is Peter Schreyer, he’s German.

The new Mercedes CLS was designed by Hubert Lee, he is Korean.

Actually, german cars are designed by Koreans, Lebanese, etc. and korean cars are designed by Germans… ;)
