We are reporting live from the Mercedes GP hospitality area at the official Formula 1 test session at the Circuit de Catalunya, Spain under invitation by Petronas where Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel emerged the quickest after completing 104 laps. The German set a lap time of 1.23.315 which is slightly quicker than Jaime Alguesuari from Toro Rosso.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso managed to set a lap time of 1.23.978 and finished the session in third. Rubens Barrichello of Williams was fourth followed by Nick Heidfeld in his Lotus Renault and Kamui Kobayashi from Sauber. Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg was seventh fastest after completing 90 laps. The German took over driving duties from team mate Michael Schumacher who drove yesterday and is planned to drive on Monday.
Nico will continue with another day of testing on Sunday. The test session was a rather colorful affair as fans gathered to show their support although many gathered around Ferrari’s hospitality area to get a glimpse of their local hero Fernando Alonso. The attendance was rather healthy as it looked like it equalled the attendance of a grand prix’s Friday free practice.
After this third test session in Barcelona which ends on Monday, the Formula 1 circus will head to the fourth and final test session in Bahrain on 3rd March before the season-opening race on 13th March at the same race track. Due to the current political unrest in the Middle Eastern country, the test session and even the grand prix may be cancelled, although we can’t tell for sure just yet.

wow!
test session so many ppl attending!
really inspiring , we here have got alot more to go to reach european level of enthusiasm for f1
Notice the name below Petronas. Upholding Malaysia worldwide.
Paul, I have a suggestion. This is not to fuel argument but merely following standard convention by Formula 1 management. Why not for the time being, a Lotus Renault is call Renault and Team Lotus is call Lotus. Because that is the standard set by F1 management and this is to avoid confusion when reading the articles related to F1.
Don’t get me wrong. When the court case finish, maybe we can settle once and for all the right name for both team. But since the official F1 website and some prominent F1 website call Lotus Renault a Renault and Team Lotus a Lotus, why not do the same thing?
This is only a suggestion as to follow F1 management and some other related F1 media. Up to you. :-)
Why cause confusion? Why do we always have to follow foreign media? Are we still colonised? Common sense tells us that the least confusing way right now is Team Lotus and Lotus Renault GP.
Okay Paul. Got it. :-)
Actually the FIA constructor ‘convention’ is Renault for Lotus Renault GP and Lotus Renault for Team Lotus but sticking to team name ‘convention’ which Paul is using is good enough to differentiate, in fact less confusing
Yes, I know. That what I was saying. I was referring to FIA and F1 Management convention of team names. But since Paul have explained his decision, it is okay by me.
Mercedes looks more green! That suits Petronas image better. Nice design anyway. Hopefully more podium this year!
I guess Petronas have it say on this year design. However, very nice indeed. Personally ‘Silver Arrow’ theme is always been beautiful from the early days of F1.
go nick!
I love those trucks….

Those trucks are only used at European races. You won’t see them at ‘flyway’ races
