SsangYong SUT 1 Concept – Actyon Sports gets new face

SsangYong SUT 1 Concept – Actyon Sports gets new face

Anyone remember the SsangYong Actyon Sports? I do, mainly because of its strange looks in a very traditional truck segment, and its 2.0-litre diesel engine with the figures of a 2.5. That same strange looking truck has made an appearance in Geneva, but it looks less oddball now with an all new face.

This is the SUT 1 Concept by SsangYong, named so because it was designed to be the world’s best pick-up truck (SUT stands for Sports Utility Truck). Don’t throw stones at us, that’s what they said!

We can see that SsangYong has ditched the Actyon’s bulging forehead and triangle lamps for a sleeker, contemporary grille with long swept back headlamps. They’ve even thrown in some trendy LED strips. Actually, this move to look more conventional isn’t new – the SsangYong Korando SUV that was released late last year could have been from any carmaker, not something that can be said of past models.

That prominent rising signature line is still there, but it no longer makes a downward sweep at the end of the road. The profile makes for a very high tailgate, and that’s unchanged, although the elements have been reshaped.

The FR 2.0-litre Active Diesel engine (Euro 5 compliant) makes 155 PS and 360 Nm of torque from 1,500-2,800 rpm (190 Nm available at 1,000 rpm), which not only betters the Actyon Sports’ 141 PS/310 Nm, but beats all 2.5-litre trucks in Malaysia bar the Navara. The engine is mated to six-speed transmissions – auto and manual.

The SUT 1 has plenty of equipment, including powered and heated leather seats, auto air con, sunroof, ESP, 18-inch wheels, cruise control, Bluetooth and an electro chromatic rear view mirror. Production will start in the second half of this year and market introduction is set for early 2012.

I’d love to get one of these! Definitely better than the previous model that looks like something that’s driven by Kamen Rider.

My only concern is how am I gonna mount a bullbar on this guy..

I don’t think it is a Actyon with new face, but an all new truck.

Nice…, better than what we will imagine when ppl say they drove a Ssangyong. Front grille one look reminds me of Lancer though.

Thumb up for the Exterior improvement but the interior space need to be improved especially on the rear seat space in order to beat other competitor.

What is the reason the car designer not able to design SUV truck with a half enclosed luggage compartment for storage instead of paying additional cost for canopy?

Always want to get a SUV truck but the open compartment no practical to put your stuff.

I love the side profile of this pick up, even for the current one, but not the fronlt look at it. Good for them for maintaining the side profile, and the new front look is awesome. Love it very much and without hesitation i must said that this pick up is the best looking pick up truck around…smart and rugged at the same time..

As someone did mention, why not they come out with a full covered version. Existing actyon has good desig canopy that one would have mistaken it to be a true SUV..good design. Btw, why can’t this Actyon be converted into SUV, sure will get good response with this good looking design.

And to be better in selling, rebadge it to KIA or Hyundai. Malaysian are more confortable to buy a KIA than a Ssangyong, that is a fact..

Anyway, congrat to the design team…and good for proton to rebadge this, or might as well convert it into 7 seater version (SUV), to complete their range of offering and sell it at decent price…then many will consider..

The current Actyon is based on the Kyron. It has the same interior fittings as the Kyron. The ride and handling are not much different too. I own a Kyron and have driven the Actyon too. I agree the face of the current Actyon is a matter of preference! Some like it; others not. But the Actyon SUT is definitely spot on in the looks department! Also the engine seems to be of the same lineage as the Kyron except for the 6 speed shifter!
But the facelift Kyron with the revised rear lights and front grill also has 6 speed shifter.

the power delivered from its 2.0 L engine is impressive …match or overwhelm some of 2.5 L engine others of pick-up trucks…which cheaper roax tax compare to 2.5 L which is rm840 …
mr danny, did ssyangyong built engine from scratch or buy it from other car manufacturer ?

FR Active Diesel was one of four new engines SsangYong brought to Geneva. It’s an in-house design.

Looks very nice, more like a new design direction from syangyong than just an evolution of the previous design.
