MINI One coming in August, only 31 units up for sale

There will be a new MINI variant hitting town soon, and it’s the MINI One, according to MINI Malaysia’s Facebook page. The same post also said that the MINI One will be reaching Malaysia next month (August 2011), and in limited numbers – only 31 units.

We’re guessing that the One in question is the One hatchback. One will be the entry level model of the range, which in Malaysia consists of the Cooper and turbocharged Cooper S. The One is powered by a 1.6-litre NA engine with 98 hp and 153 Nm of torque, 22 hp and 7 Nm less than the Cooper.

Launched in November 2010 here, the facelifted Cooper is priced at RM195,888 while the Cooper S will set you back RM239,888. How much do you think the entry point of MINI ownership will be?

You can bring in the car, but you also need to bring in the fuel. The fuel standard here is same as the name you give the land la! Diesel standard here kill the cars. Sad thing.

I’d expect something in the region of 160k though,if 140k,then the gap between the One and Cooper is too much. And 160k will make it a contender for Golf TSi.

would be cheaper than the current mini in our market, coz mini one is the entry level of the lot. a hatchback for sure.

  • The Mini One is supposed to be the entry level Mini in Mini Malaysia’s lineup, why is it being sold in limited numbers only (just 31 units)?

    • based on past sales records, the saleable ones are the Cooper & Cooper S. Its bare bone entry level car like the Polo yet the price is so much higher than the Polo.

    • bcos ppl in malaysia are rich…they always snap up the highest spec variant of any model!!! signs of good times.
even inspira 2.0 is the hot seller while proton is suffering to clear the 1.8 stock.

People who buy the BMW Mini are from the affluent group who can afford better cars. Its a brand thing. People who are from the affluent group realize does not care if the 1.6 only makes about the same power as a MMC Waja. So BMW thinks its a bit niche market even for the niche Mini.

IT is a good sales gimmick – 31 units for August – 31st Aug, Merdeka Day – got it?

  • they used to bring the ONE before but stopped due to lack in demand. so it seems. i suppose with the rising number of other make and model in this category they are bringing it back to see how they fare again.. the price of the ONE was around 170k before.

  • Uhh why are they bringing only 31 units of their base MINI?

  • Who need a hard top less power entry level MINI? Not a brand status. No power to enjoy, no cabriolet to pose. Buy a Golf TSI instead, if really need to buy something continental.
