First look at the new Range Rover Sport’s headlamps

This short video teaser gives us an early peek at the all-new second-generation Range Rover Sport, revealing nothing more than its Evoque-style swept-back headlamps and slimmer vents on the front fender. The soundtrack suggests that there’s a V8 nestling under the hood, most probably Jaguar Land Rover’s 510 hp 5.0 litre supercharged V8 motor.

Here’s what we know so far: the new Range Rover Sport will be based not on the Discovery‘s monocoque/ladder frame chassis but built on the high-tech all-aluminium spaceframe that’s shared with the latest Range Rover. The change will make it significantly lighter and more agile than before – a weight saving of up to 300 kg has been suggested.

If that proves to be accurate, a 0-100 km/h time of less than five seconds is on the cards. The British firm says that the new model will be its fastest, most dynamic model yet. Speed is a non-issue but range-leading agility, especially coming in after the hot-hatch-like Evoque, that’s a tough ask and a bold claim indeed for a high riding full-sized SUV.

The new model’s March 26 Big Apple debut is scheduled to be broadcasted live on its dedicated microsite. Prior registration is required so if you can’t be bothered to, well, just tune in here as you always do and we’ll keep you updated.

Its big brother, the L405 Range Rover has already been sighted undergoing type approval in Putrajaya so a local introduction shouldn’t be too far away now.
