SPYSHOTS: 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5, in and out

LR Discovery 5 Spyshots-02

One doesn’t expect a car like the upcoming 2017 Land Rover Discovery 5 to be testing at the Nurburgring, but here it is, from the people who camp in the Green Hell.

Not to be confused with the Discovery Sport, which is a Freelander-replacement, this is the full seven-seater Discovery, even if it’s less boxy than what we’re used to, wears very big wheels, and the signature stepped roofline is barely visible here. It looks like no model will escape Land Rover’s new look that started with the Evoque, not even the hardworking Discovery.

Not much difference compared to the last sighting of a Disco mule late last year, and the production car is expected to retain much of the 2014 Land Rover Discovery Vision concept’s looks.

This time around, our carparazzi friends managed to get shots of the Disco 5’s interior, which shows a rather no-frills dashboard with a conventional layout (more Range Rover Sport than Discovery Sport, though) and pretty spartan trim. Of course, we’re not looking at the finished product, which should have a bit more gloss when it debuts.

The outgoing Discovery is capable but very heavy, and if the new one comes with a new aluminium platform, it should boost drivability and economy. Launching later this year.
