Mercedes-AMG will reveal the new GT R (not to be confused with the Nissan model) at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 24. Ahead of the reveal, the Affalterbach-based company has fired up its “Beast of the Green Hell” marketing campaign, roping in Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton to do.
In the 51-second video, we see Hamilton and his entourage attempt to look for the “beast” in a jungle. The spot certainly has the vibe of the first Predator movie, accompanied by the ear-pleasing grunts from the GT R’s 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8.
Said mill is expected to produce 585 PS, a substantial increase from what the GT S offers – 510 PS and 650 Nm. Along with “monstrous” upgrades under the hood, the GT R will also be made to look more “beastly” compared to its docile siblings in the range.
Earlier spyshots have revealed that a large rear wing will be among the exterior enhancements, along with a centrally-mounted exhaust outlet, a more aggressive rear diffuser, new front grille and wider wheel arches. Expect the GT R to shed a few kilos as well by adopting more carbon-fibre components.
The GT R will become the range-topper in said model range, positioned above the GT S and standard GT, at least until Mercedes-AMG decides to further improve upon the two-door coupe. A Black Series, maybe?
