After being spotted in cold weather testing, the Mercedes-AMG GT R appears set for an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed which is taking place in just over a week’s time. the R will be positioned above the GT S in the line up, and below the even more performance-focused Black Series which may come in the future.

Judging from the teasers images and spyshots, the GT R will wear a larger – even larger than on the Edition 1 – rear wing, a centrally mounted exhaust outlet, a more aggressive rear diffuser, carbon-fibre roof, and black, possibly carbon-fibre side mirror caps.

The license plate in the teaser image suggests the GT R will sport 585 hp from its 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8, and overall weight is rumoured to be up to 80 kg less than its more mainstream brethren. The GT R is expected to raise performance levels courtesy of its increased engine output and reduced weight. Read our review of the Mercedes-AMG GT S, and watch our three-way video review.
