A 15-second teaser video has been posted by the official Indonesian Honda distributor, PT Astra Honda, of the upcoming 2016 Honda CBR250RR – which is looking more likely to be launched in October, if rumours are to be believed. This much anticipated replacement model for the current single-cylinder Honda CBR250R has drawn a lot of interest from riders in the ASEAN region.

Ever since images of the Honda CBR250RR surfaced on the internet, plus the display of a prototype at a motor show in Japan last year, there has been plenty of interest in the this “Light Weight Super Sports Concept,” which will have a parallel-twin engine displacing either 250 cc or 350 cc, depending on intended market.

Reports have mentioned that the 2016 Honda CBR250RR’s target market will be Indonesia and the release of this video is perhaps an indication that the quarter-litre offering will be in the dealers by October this year.

Few details have been officially released about the CBR250RR, aside from the single-disc brakes at the front and rear as well as LED DRLs and lighting, which are evident from the pictures. Based on the previous-generation CBR250, it is likely power will be at or around the 25 hp mark, and torque at about 22 NM or so, while ABS will probably be an option.

The Honda CBR250RR’s closest rivals in Malaysia are the Yamaha YZF-R25, the KTM RC250 and the Kawasaki Ninja 250. The current-generation CBR250R retails from RM21,728 in base form, to RM25,650 for the Repsol version with ABS, inclusive of GST. The Yamaha YZF-R25 retails for RM20,630 inclusive of GST, while the Kawasaki Ninja 250R retails for around RM22,000, excluding GST. The KTM RC250 goes for RM21,081.28, with GST.
