2016 Subaru Levorg 1.6 GT-S (RM200k) and XV Crosstrek (from RM120k) now available in Malaysia

Subaru_Levorg_MV_Ext-2

Both the Subaru Levorg 1.6 GT-S and XV Crosstrek are now available in Malaysia, with the former being priced at RM199,720, and the latter at an introductory price of RM119,500 (prices mentioned here onwards are on-the-road without insurance).

Beginning with the Impreza-based wagon, the Levorg (LEgacy, reVOlution, touRinG) comes fully imported from Japan (CBU) in a single 1.6 GT-S variant, powered by a 1.6 litre DIT (Direct Injection Turbo) turbocharged flat-four petrol engine.

The turbo mill develops 170 PS from 4,800 to 5,600 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 4,800 rpm, paired to a six-speed Lineartronic CVT transmission and Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, sending drive to all four wheels.

Standard equipment include auto levelling LED headlamps, C-shaped positioning lights, halogen fog lamps, power sunroof, power-folding side mirrors with LED turn signals, dual exhaust tips and 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels wrapped with 225/45R18 tyres. On the inside, there’s a dual-zone automatic climate control system, multi-info displays and leather upholstery.

Meanwhile, the XV Crosstrek is essentially a kitted-up version of the facelifted XV, which was launched earlier in the year. The Crosstrek is available in two variants – 2.0i and 2.0i-P, with actual retail prices starting at RM138,588 for the former, and RM138,788 for the latter, once the introductory price mentioned above is discontinued.

The Crosstrek introduces a front spoiler lip, silver accents on the front corners, side skirts and a rear diffuser with silver highlights, as well as a black tailgate spoiler that is reminiscent of that offered on the pre-facelift STI Performance model (minus the STI badging). Interior additions include exclusive Crosstrek edition leather seats and floor mats.

No changes the car’s powertrain, which is made up of a 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated flat-four petrol engine, developing 150 PS at 6,200 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Drive is sent to Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system via a Lineartronic CVT.

As mentioned at the start, the Subaru Levorg 1.6 GT-S is priced at RM199,720, which includes a five-year or 100,000 km manufacturer warranty. As for the Subaru XV Crosstrek, the model currently retails at an introductory price of RM119,500, and comes with the same warranty period as the Levorg, with the addition of a three-year or 60,000 km free service package.

The V60 is a proper luxury car. Subarus aren’t. Though the Levorg does handle well and has many USB ports (pretty important if you got many young ones in the car). Honestly, it’s not a bad car, the Levorg. But it is just overpriced for what it is. The Forester XT, which has the powerful 2.0 turbo engine, is just around RM12k more.

I found a 3 year old Volvo V60 with about 60000km on it for sale online in KL for the same price as a brand new Subaru XV. Please don’t compare freshly picked apples with used and bruised oranges.

Subaru Levorg CBU at this pricing …. very niche market, similar with Mazda6 Wagon ….pricing about the same but not a volume seller. For those who like it, wait for year end clerance or next year when they clear their 2016 stocks ….

  • I am contemplating on Subaru XV. Any known issue to this car model since it has been on the road for 2-3years now?

    Hello AK,
I had a test drive for this case, i thought it was good, powered adjustable seat, could elevate the height, powerful engine and response, not bad a CVT transmission, though a bit loud, but i found the steering wheel quite stiff, and hard, found out that, it’s hydraulic power steering, and it was really quite heavy the steering, which makes the whole driving experience being down graded, other than that, it was also a perfect car for that price.
