Malaysian Lexus owners cemented their reputation as the best golfers in the region as Team Malaysia again took the Country Champion award in the Asia Lexus Cup Golf Tournament 2016.
Held in Da Nang, Vietnam earlier this month, the event is an annual affair hosted by Lexus Asia Pacific Division and its regional distributors since 2012.
This year’s edition saw a total of 57 golfers from eight Asian countries meeting at the Montgomerie Links golf course in Da Nang. They were the top scorers in Lexus-organised tournaments in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
This year’s tournament was held in difficult weather conditions with occasional rain delaying play on the second day. A new challenge this year was the Speed Competition which was won by Taiwan. Players from the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand were dominant in the tournament, taking home seven of the sixteen awards. However, Tham Kim Seng, Tan Yeow Kwang, Chai Koon Khow and Moh Chee Leong scooped the coveted Country Champions award for Malaysia.
Four pro golfers from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) – Beatriz Recari and Azahara Munoz from Spain and Jessica Korda and Alison Lee from the USA – were present at the event to demonstrate their skills and offer tips to the amateur players.
