Peugeot 208 and 2008 facelifts previewed in Malaysia – 1.2 litre PureTech, 112 PS/205 Nm, open for booking

peugeot-2008-2008-puretech-facelift-1

The new Peugeot 208 and 2008 facelifts are being previewed in Malaysia, specifically at the Queensbay Mall, Penang from December 1 to 4. Bookings for both of the updated B-segment models are also open – they should be officially launched very soon.

Both models get minor visual enhancements for their mid-life updates. Unveiled in February 2015, the 208 facelift gets a new bumper and grille combo, while the headlights have a more striking dual-tone black and chrome bezel. The rear, meanwhile, gets full-LED light clusters with a prominent claw motif.

As for the 2008, the compact SUV was given a rework earlier this year, with a new vertical front grille, slightly revised headlamps, black wheel arch extensions and new scuff plates to give it more of an SUV look.

More important are the changes under the hood. Previously with a 122 PS/160 Nm 1.6 litre naturally-aspirated engine, paired with a four-speed auto, both models get Peugeot’s new 1.2 litre PureTech engine with 112 PS and 205 Nm, together with an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission.

On the smaller 208, that translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 9.8 seconds and a 190 km/h top speed. Fuel economy is rated at 4.5 l/100 km on the combined cycle. The old car needed 10.7 seconds to get to 100 km/h, and used 6.7 l/100 km. Top speed goes unchanged.

Meanwhile, the 2008 now gets to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds, goes up to 188 km/h and averages 4.8 l/100 km. In comparison, the pre-facelift model had a 0-100 km/h time of 11.2 seconds, a 190 km/h top speed and used 6.5 l/100 km.

On the safety front, both models get six airbags and electronic stability control, as before. No prices have been announced just yet, but they’re not expected to run very far from the existing figures: RM85,888 for the 208 five-door hatchback, and RM119,888 for the 2008 crossover.

Only the five-door version of the 208 is on display at the moment, so we’ll have to wait and see if the three-door version will be retained in the facelifted range. No word on the updated 208 GTi model either. We’ll know more soon, so stay tuned to paultan.org.

NASIM already screwed up Peugeot aftersales. Malaysian are not so Forgiving… Eg. 308 Turbo requires Overhaul due to “Aunty” owner didn’t Step on the Acceleration to clear the Carbon deposits… What nonsense. Damage’s Done. Cost an arm and leg to Maintain the Peugeot. 5 years warranty BUT T&C very strict. Many parts Not covered by the Warranty.

In Europe, Peugeot is known as a low class car. Even the French laugh at it. Even Top Gear dedicated one episode on Peugeot saying it is the lowest quality car ever produced in Europe.

But in Malaysia, people think its happening and high class car. Nasim also clever hantam luxury car prices.

Bought a 3008 on December 2011. Claimed warranty 3 times due to “carbon deposit” problem, 1 aircond compressor and 1 water pipe pecah.

The amount of faults on the car is reasonable to me as I believe all turbo cars are never reliable. After sales isn’t too bad as well tbh as parts arrived quite fast for my claims and repairs.

But the thing is, the repairation cost of the car is a hard pain in the ass. Services could easily go up to almost 4-5k, and a set of spark plugs costs more than 2.5k!

Finally decided to sell it off middle of this year as too many problems are starting to surface and my wallets are bleeding to maintain the car. Sold it off for RM33k only.

Got a new 2015 VW Passat for RM118k and heck, it was waaaaaaaaaay better. Best of all, minor and major service costs below 1.5k only! Besides that, warranty claims are way easier compared to the Peug. Claimed a new mecha, new brake pads and new battery so far without much fuss.

Friendly advice for future owners, if you plan to get this car, be prepared for bad finishing quality / road trips inside a towtruck / numerous breakdowns / countless visits to SC / countless nasi lemak and biscuits to “befriend” your SA / and worthless resell value.

Other than those, these are actually a pretty good car to sit / drive / look at. Once you’ve driven one, you’ll never want to go back to an ordinary NA sushi car anymore!

I advice Peugeot lovers, wait 1 year before you buy this car. Buy 2nd hand. You can get this car for HALF Price.

It is a well known fact that Peugeot is the “King of Depreciation” in Malaysia.

Every year, without fail, they have won the throne to be King of Depreciation Malaysia award.

Enjoy it while you can brother. Had a few friends with passat and jetta. Love affair at first and cursing like hell now.

To be fair, i know a few VW and Peugeot drivers who have no such problem with their car. Maintain their service, drove it like how a car should be driven.

A lot of people thinks a car can be maintained like a Japanese in the 90s. Careless maintenance and rarely “drive” but expect the power to kick in anytime they need.

Current batch of European cars are so electronically and mechanically complex that they need top notch maintenance and constant usage. New buyers have to educated well on their maintenance.

Top Gear is an entertainment show that has nothing to do with reality. On air they’ve bashed the Reliant Robin like they absolutely hate it. Later they made it their company car, and say they love it. It only roll over because they modified it, and did stuff to make it roll over.

I’ve driven the 208, it’s a fine car. I’ve also driven the Opel Corsa and VW Polo… all 2016 cars. The Corsa is junk, maybe as good as a Myvi at best. Terrible thing. The Polo is fine. Grown up enough. But I really liked the 208. Even more grown up than the Polo, and sure as hell more fun to drive. Keep in mind I don’t like Peugeot (I think they ruined Citroen when they took over that brand), and that I drive a VW every day (and used to drive Citroen). I am biased AGAINST Peugeot. Yet, the 208 is wonderful.

Besides, I also drive that 1.2 engine in another car, and it’s a beautiful engine. A bit rough, but with good low end torque. I like it more than the similarly powerful 1.2 and 1.4 from VW.

The 2008 “needed” the powertrain to compete with the Best while the people who buy the Pug “deserved” the upgrade.

If they can maintain the price it would be good to compete with its rivals mainly the HRV and Fiesta/Jazz.

cut throat servicing cost turns a lot of customers away besides the low resale value.

    • cerita tak detail langsung. nampak sangat menipu. sama je macam stail cerita kawan atas kawan jugak.

pakai dulu baru tau. saya owner peugeot dah 2 unit dah pakai banyak tahun takkan takda pernah tak claim. mula2 je ada claim, dah sebab kereta mahal beli sure semua nk puas hati. lepas tu semua dah ok takda masalah dah until now 5 years of using. totally satified. parts pun boleh kata tak mahal tak murah, tengah2. minyak jimat, comfort & performance sedap. dah banyak jenis kereta cuba, honda, nissan, merc, i could say the brand kinda one of entry level luxury class one.

2nd value memang rendah. the only decpreciation value yg baik hnya toyota/honda, tu pun certain model saja. of it matters for you then go buy a house rather than a car.

this car is definitely a great improvement as far as I seen compare to the price engine. finally a proper heat cover at the cat, the right spot for the intercooler vs the new 308t… and not to mention, a proper dust cover over the ignition coil.. there are a few improvement can be done, but as far as I can see it, its definitely an improvement vs the previous one.
