Ford Mustang Shelby FP350S – off the shelf race car

This mean-looking Mustang is the Ford Mustang Shelby FP350S, unveiled at the 2016 Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis, USA. It’s a new, non-street legal, track-ready race car that Americans can buy at any US Ford dealership.

The Shelby FP350S is designed for road racing sprint events in classes including, but not limited to, Trans Am (TA3 and TA4), NASA and SCCA club racing (T1 and T2).

It is the latest offering from Ford Performance in a long line of turn-key race cars that include the FR500C, Boss 302R and 302S, and most recently, the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship-winning Ford Shelby GT350R-C and GT4, unveiled at this year’s SEMA.

Powered by a 5.2 litre V8 engine prepared by Ford Performance Parts, the Shelby FP350S gets a performance-oriented oil pan and oil cooler, a race exhaust system and a Tremec 3160 manual transmission with integral oil pump, shifter and 3.73 rear final drive ratio.

Other highlights include a modified unibody chassis with seam welding, six-point FIA-compliant roll cage, race-oriented suspension components including electric steering calibrations and a high-performance brake system. The race Mustang rides on 19 x 10.5-inch front wheels and 19 x 11-inch rear wheels. There’s also a Ford Performance splitter and carbon fibre adjustable rear wing. The cabin houses a MOTEC data acquisition system and Sparco FIA-spec racing seat, plus quick-release steering wheel.

Optional items include a forged 18 x 11-inch race wheel package and custom graphics. Ford makes a racing ‘Stang for global markets too – check out the Mustang GT4.
