BMW 118i M Sport

It’s only two months into 2017 and BMW Malaysia has already hit the ground running with two new variants. Two weeks ago, the company introduced the BMW 118i M Sport and 330e M Sport plug-in hybrid that complement the Sport versions of those two cars, and now we have a full gallery of both for your perusal.

To recap, the 118i M Sport is priced at RM188,800, RM12,000 more expensive than the Sport variant, while the 330e M Sport retails at RM258,800, a RM10,000 premium over the 330e Sport. Both prices are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, a five-year free service package and a two-year tyre warranty.

As the variant names suggest, both models now see the incorporation of the full M Sport package – appearance-wise, this consists of more aggressive front bumpers, deeper side skirts and more prominent rear valences. Both also gain 18-inch wheels finished in Ferric Grey; the 118i receives double spoke style 461 M alloys, while the 330e wears double spoke style 441 M rollers.

Inside, the M Sport models are differentiated via three-spoke M steering wheels, anthracite headlining and aluminium hexagon trim with blue accent strips. The 118i gets front sports seats upholstered in black Dakota leather, while the 330e gains black Dakota leather with Dark Oyster highlights.

The 118i M Sport gains a couple of extra equipment over the entry-level Sport, including Comfort Access keyless entry, cruise control and a Business navigation system with a 6.5-inch iDrive display. Otherwise, kit count remains the same and includes LED headlights and fog lights, dual-zone auto air-con, auto lights and wipers, front and rear parking sensors and power-adjustable front seats with driver’s side memory.

Powering the 118i is a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 136 hp at 4,400 rpm and 220 Nm of torque from 1,250 to 4,300 rpm. It is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, enabling the car to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, as well as deliver a combined fuel consumption figure of 5.1 litres per 100 km.

Meanwhile, the 330e M Sport gets all the accoutrements of the Sport variant, including LED headlights and fog lights, Comfort Access, a sunroof, a powered rear windscreen blind, dual-zone auto air-con, auto lights and wipers, powered front seats with driver’s side memory, a Professional navigation system with an 8.8-inch display, a reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and a nine-speaker Advanced sound system.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre turbo petrol four-pot, 184 hp from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 290 Nm between 1,350 and 4,250 rpm – the same figures as on the 320i. Bolted on is an 87 hp/250 Nm electric motor and a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a total system output of 252 hp and 420 Nm. Zero to 100 km/h is done in 6.1 seconds; combined fuel consumption is rated at 2.1 litres per 100 km.

Lastly, both cars feature a suite ConnectedDrive services, including Intelligent Emergency Call and a range of telephone, concierge and remote services. Four exterior colours are available, these being Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, Estoril Blue and Alpine White.

The 118i M Sport also has Cruise Control, something the 118i Sport lacks.

    In short, U pay RM12k more, U get 18-inch wheels for the 118i “M” Sport & for RM10k extra, U also add 18-inch wheel for the 330e “M” Sport.

Both models now see the incorporation of the full M Sport package without extra power. That is pretty reasonable if U compare to the Polster upgrade of the Volvo.

The Best part of the deal is the 330e O to 100 km/h is done in 6.1 sec & combined fuel consumption is rated at ONLY 2.1 litres per 100 km. That must be the Best deal for a premium executive car.

I am bored and fallen out of love with all cars in general. They’re so bland, boring to drive and look at. No soul. I hope the Alfa Guilia Q4 will make its official debut here

I just booked the 330e M Sport my SA mentioned it has adaptive dampers like the ones found in the outgoing 330i M Sport. But the article says nothing about it …could anyone reconfirm this? Thanks.

The 330e M Sport has fixed M Sport suspension, not adaptive dampers like on the 330i M Sport.

Hmm no mention about the passive M Sport suspension which helps stop the car from being a boat?
