Fuel prices to fluctuate between 5-10 sen – KPDNKK

Fuel prices to fluctuate between 5-10 sen – KPDNKK

The domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry (KPDNKK) expects the increase or decrease in fuel prices to range between 5-10 sen after the switch to a new fuel ceiling price mechanism this Wednesday (March 29), Berita Harian reports.

Under the new pricing scheme, fuel prices will be announced on a weekly basis instead of monthly, and retailers will be allowed to price fuel below the set ceiling price. According to Meor Ismail Meor Akim, director of the petroleum subsidy division at KPDNKK, the price fluctuations are expected to be minor compared to the monthly pricing system implemented earlier.

He added that the decision to make the switch was a practical one as price changes can be implemented more quickly. “From our observations, for example in January, there was substantial increase (in fuel prices) by 20 sen, while following a weekly increase, it would be between just 3-7 sen (per week).

“The increase (in fuel prices) by 3-7 sen isn’t as significant compared to the increase as a result of waiting an entire month (up to 20 sen), which is deemed too much by some parties. This situation triggers panic buying among consumers, who rush to queue at fuel stations,” he said.

  • 7 sen x 4 weeks = 28 sen/month. What a way to deceive the rakyat that fuel prices won’t increase by much.

What can 5 sen save? 40 litres. 5 sen means we save RM2.00 we save. Cannot even buy assamboi from the mamak shop

All big drama for the rakyat. The fact is, we are now overpaying by nearly RM1 per litre. According to global oil prices, our petrol should be RM1.30 to RM1.50. But we pay RM2.30

Just imagine. 1 person fill up 50 litres, already overpay by RM50. fill up 8x a week, that is RM400 per person we are overpaying to the Government.

Calculate that with 10 million motorist.

Where do the billions go? And now Government saves us RM2 each fill we do.

    Fluctuate 3-7 sen isn’t significant?
If rise 7 sen every week, that will be 28 sen!

Tun M’s time, it fluctuates like so many months only once and that’s about 1-2 sen.

Any increase is already too much! Breaking it down by 3 to 7 sen per week over a month is the same. We need a stronger ringgit to keep inflation down.

R the electronic signages ready for all to view from a distance or the bangla is scribbling on pieces of cardboard at the pump?
Assuming the price is rm2.30/litre, what if the operator wants to start with rm 2.30 ,then daily reduce 1 sen for the next 6 days.Does he need to get written approval from Kpdnkk?
There’s still lots of uncertainty at the pumps. The Banglas r still shaking their heads,” saya tak tahu, boss”.Mana boss ? Boss sedang diurut amoi cun cun atau main golf.

Malaysia is a oil producing country. We still have huge reserves to last many generations. Why make so difficult and complicated calculations, just sell below RM1.70/ litre. Eveyrbody happy.

    • Can’t sell RM1. 70, later more goes to smuggling. More job to do…. Letih la macam ni. Remove subsidy, get it floating, increase price. More money come in, no extra job to do. Rakyat continue working to pay for their nice “pillow” so that they can continue “sleeping”

Soon enough driving a car and eating out will be categorise as a luxury.

The moderate income earners will not be able to afford to drive and eat out cause it is too expensive.

And the poor will suffer even more.

Non of these relates to “Rakyat didahulukan, pencapaian diutamakan”.

Let’s not get carried away and see how things go after it is implemented. For all you know, it will spark a price war between merchants and consumers will benefit from this, if they want to outdo each other to attract more customers. The worst thing that could happen is that they all pakat and sell at same ceiling price set by the gov. Then it’ll be back to what it is today with the difference that fuel prices will change every week. If they play fair, then consumers should benefit if they have the time to survey for the cheapest brand before they fuel up. In my opinion, this is a game changer that can promote healthy competition.

The thing that bugs me is how fickle the gov can be. One moment they want to remove subsidy, add gst, then they want to change fuel prices each month and now each week. If anything, it proves that they didn’t bother to study the impact before implementing such rules. Until today it is still very unclear how they calculate things, why sometimes petrol goes up, sometimes diesel only goes up etc. Why go down 5 cents but goes up 20 cents etc?

Maybe, just maybe…since we Malaysians like to complain so much every month when there’s change in fuel prices. Now, they can keep us more occupied since we can make noise every week. This is a good diversion tool to divert us from other ‘issues’

I would like to propose to start a forum on Paul Tan. Highlight all the petrol stations that are selling below the ceiling prices. Boycott the ones that are selling at ceiling prices or above it. Let the consumers win and dealers who can’t survive close shop.
