Ford Ranger 2.2L FX4 launched in M’sia – RM121,888

Ford Malaysia has officially launched the new Ranger 2.2L FX4 in Malaysia, a pick-up truck we previewed just a few weeks ago. Priced at RM121,888 on-the-road without insurance, the new Ranger variant comes with several Wildtrak-derived trim on the exterior and interior.

We start with the former, where you’ll find a black painted grille at the front instead of the standard chrome fitting on the standard XLT. Adding to this are the side mirror caps and door handles, both of which are finished in gloss black.

Moving on, the FX4 comes with matte black roof rails (absent on the XLT) as well as wider, flatter side steps similar to those on the Wildtrak. Finishing touches on the exterior include 18-inch double six-spoke wheels shod with Bridgestone Dueler H/T tyres (265/60 size), and matte decals.

Changes to the interior are minimal, with black leather upholstery being a new addition along with ‘FX’ embossed on the backrest of the front seats. The rest of the equipment list is as per the standard 2.2 XLT – a 4.2-inch display, SYNC infotainment system, automatic halogen headlights, manual climate control and a leather steering wheel.

Also retained here are the dual airbags, stability control, leather steering wheel, four-way manually adjusted driver’s seat, automatic wipers and auto-dimming rear view mirror.

Under the hood, a 2.2 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel serves up 158 hp and 385 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a driver-selectable all-wheel drive system, with low range and hill descent control. The Ranger 2.2L FX4 can be ordered in Meteor Grey or Aluminium Metallic, and comes with a three-year/100,000 km warranty.

    Dear Gerard,
Why the registration number W/TP? Special running numbers?

I was surprised to know that ford ranger,Chevy colorado,Mazda pick up (in my knowledge) using timing belt ,in fact it should use timing chain bez it lasts longer n perfect for pick up trucks like using by Nissan,Mitsubishi and toyata pickup trucks.

Only 2 airbags? Should pitch this between d XLT & the more expensive wildtrak, then you will get buyers who can’t afford d widtrack buying this instead. Better still, bring in the 2.2 ltr wildtrak

Its a nice truck and the FX4 is offered in a 3.2L in AUS but for price road tax the 2.2L is best. I have a 2012 Triton VGT so looking for a new ride at the moment. The FX4 is missing some simple things for sure so will hold out longer.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE WHO LIVING ON THE OFFROAD… so many problem.. not even 1 year, alot of problems occurred such as Brake Lining (rear brakes) broken, disk drum affected. bearing at infront makes sound! my friends using HILUX or DmaX dont have problem like ford do!. Better use in city only! Wanna trade this car to another brands.
