Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic in Malaysia – RM658,888

Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic in Malaysia – RM658,888

Here’s another Mercedes-AMG model that’s making its debut today, in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s celebration of AMG’s 50th anniversary. The new E 43 4Matic now becomes the range-topping variant in the W213 E-Class line-up here in Malaysia ahead of the E 300.

Under the hood, the E 43 packs a M276 3.0 litre biturbo V6 petrol engine (also in the other AMG 43 models launched today) that is mated to an AMG-tuned 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission as well as an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system (31:69 rear-biased torque split).

The mill itself produces 396 hp (401 PS) at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque between 2,500 to 5,000 rpm, representing a 151 hp and 150 Nm increase over the E 300’s 2.0 litre turbo unit. As a result, the E 43 will complete the zero to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds (1.6 second quicker than the E 300), and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.

Grunt aside, the E 43 is fitted with an AMG-tuned version of the Air Body Control air suspension and 20-inch AMG five V-spoke light-alloy wheels. Said wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres, and accompanied by AMG-branded ventilated disc brakes (with silver-painted) calipers.

As found on the E 300, a Dynamic Select toggle switch on the centre console allows drivers to select from several driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. Each mode modifies key parameters, such as the engine response, transmission, suspension and steering.

On the exterior, the E 43 comes with the AMG Line exterior kit, where sportier bumpers and side skirts are fitted as standard. However, the sedan gets an AMG single-bar diamond radiator grille with chrome pins rather than the dual-bar setup that is found on the fiery E 63 4Matic+. Another feature of the E 43’s front end is the pair of Multibeam LED headlamps.

Moving around the vehicle, you’ll also find a boot lid spoiler, AMG quad-exhaust tips and a Night Package styling kit. The latter, as the name implies, introduces a high-gloss black finish to the bumper trim, side mirror caps, exhaust tips and belt line trim.

Moving inside, the E 43’s seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather/Dinamica microfibre with red contrast stitching. In areas such as the dashboard and door cards, Artico man-made leather is applied instead. In line with the sedan’s sporty persona, an AMG sports steering wheel wrapped with Nappa leather, designo seat belts in red, sports pedals and carbon-fibre trim are all standard.

The equipment list also includes a dual-zone Thermotronic climate control system, widescreen cockpit with two 12.3-inch screens, panoramic roof, wireless mobile phone charging, Keyless-GO, hands-free boot access, a 360-degree camera, 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system and a heads-up display.

Infotainment duties are handled by a COMAND Online system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, touch-sensitive Touch Controls on the steering wheel and COMAND Touchpad Controller.

We now arrive at the ultimate question, how much is it? Well, the E 43 Matic is priced at RM658,888 on-the-road without insurance. Buyers can opt for the traditional hire purchase mode of purchase, or go with MBM’s Agility Financing programme, whereby the monthly repayment can be as low as RM6,588 per month (terms apply). Really? No Driving Assistance Package Plus with Drive Pilot at this price point?

    • That’s the first thing i check, when i see that front logo is a non-flat logo, i know malaysian are going to miss some advance safety features again!! With this price, C63s looks more attractive at RM699k vs this RM658k, though it’s a smaller car, but it comes with the flat logo sensor in it with advance safety features. And yet it’s AMG 63 instead of 45 or any 43, with AMG hand built V8, real AMG, nit any ‘lite’ AMG version

Personally I don’t need the power of a V8 (and I like the smoothness of a 6 better), but without DAP+ (the full safety pack), it’s a massive letdown.

I drive a GLC43 in Australia (DAP+ is standard on 250 and above), and Distronic Plus is really useful in traffic jams and long distance driving (like Melbourne to Sydney). It takes a lot of stress away in driving. Plus, especially since it’s Malaysia, blind spot assist is a must because of mopeds zigzagging between cars and hiding in blind spots.

Practically every Malaysian model is tin kosong. The only MBs in Malaysia with DAP+ are the S400, GLE 400 SUV, GLE 450 (43) coupe, GLS 400 and all the 63/65AMG models.

I emailed MBM before about the addition of DAP+ to vehicles that didn’t come with it. They said it’s possible, but it’s 2600 euros plus the tax involved in getting a CBU version of the vehicle instead (that was for a W205 C300), and that they had no way of fitting it to CKD vehicles that didn’t come with it.

        • Yes, every Malaysian model is tin kosong, wondering why. And this is not just happening on Mercedes.
For GLE 450 coupe the last i met on the road, and one nearby my housing area, there’s no distronic plus equipped too

Really? The last time I read here, the GLE 450 coupe had the DAP+ package (400 coupe didn’t get it).

Either way, when I bought a W205 C300 for my Malaysian usage, I wasn’t about to drive a tin kosong CKD spec vehicle, so I ordered a CBU unit with DAP+, Airmatic suspension and the 360º camera, and then swallowed the bitterness in paying the extra import duties that’s part of being a CBU vehicle.

Test driven…E43 is as relaxing and as effortless to drive around town as any of the more luxury-focused E-Class variants, particularly when left in its default Comfort setting.

For 173,000 Ringgit more, U get a Performance increment of 151 hp/150 Nm over the E 300’s 2.0 turbo. It also quicker to 100 Kph by 1.6 sec.

The best part is its fitted with an AMG-tuned version of the Air Body Control air suspension & 20-inch AMG 5 V-spoke light-alloy wheels that come with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres & AMG ventilated disc brakes.

For many, 173k is a lot of $$$. For the Rich, the company can take the tabs. My question is wouldn’t it be better to buy the S-class later with that kind of outlay??

My favourite of the AMG “lite” bunch launched in Malaysia today. Glad MBM gave these 5 spoke rims for Malaysia, cos they are absolutely sexy. The E Class looks quite different when it has been de-chromed like so here. Good work by Affalterbach. But probably not for the uncles out there.

So the numbers are meaningless. The AMG C/E43 has a bigger engine and is more powerful than the AMG A/GLA/CLA45.

The M276 engine fitted in the C produces 367hp (less than the 381hp in the MFA-platform 45AMG engine). The 43 badge also debuted with the 367hp output.

On the E43, bigger turbochargers were used and it became more powerful than the 45AMG engine.

That being said, I’m pretty sure the M276 3.0/V6 engine is more tunable than the 2.0/4 M133 engine. GAD Motors in Germany took an M276 in a W205 and pushed it to 500hp

    • Not really true, for C43 it’s less powerful in term of horsepowers than the new 45 series, but of coz u get more torque on 43 V6 here, vs 4 cylinder, but the 4 cylinders engine is hand built AMG engine. For E43 yes it’s more powerful than 45 series AMG but with this price, people who can afford would top up to C63s AMG, with V8 hand built AMG engine, 510hp, 700nm torque, and may even opt for carbon ceramic brake

And single stripe LED DRL for C class ,
dual stripe for E class . It’s easier to distinguish than the latest 5er with 3er.

The main difference is in the headlamp LED line. The “NEW” C-class has only one line. The E-class have 2 line & the latest(not here yet) has 3 lines. Hope it help U. Cheers…
