Here’s another Mercedes-AMG model that’s making its debut today, in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s celebration of AMG’s 50th anniversary. The new E 43 4Matic now becomes the range-topping variant in the W213 E-Class line-up here in Malaysia ahead of the E 300.

Under the hood, the E 43 packs a M276 3.0 litre biturbo V6 petrol engine (also in the other AMG 43 models launched today) that is mated to an AMG-tuned 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission as well as an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system (31:69 rear-biased torque split).

The mill itself produces 396 hp (401 PS) at 6,100 rpm and 520 Nm of torque between 2,500 to 5,000 rpm, representing a 151 hp and 150 Nm increase over the E 300’s 2.0 litre turbo unit. As a result, the E 43 will complete the zero to 100 km/h sprint in just 4.6 seconds (1.6 second quicker than the E 300), and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.

Grunt aside, the E 43 is fitted with an AMG-tuned version of the Air Body Control air suspension and 20-inch AMG five V-spoke light-alloy wheels. Said wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres, and accompanied by AMG-branded ventilated disc brakes (with silver-painted) calipers.

As found on the E 300, a Dynamic Select toggle switch on the centre console allows drivers to select from several driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. Each mode modifies key parameters, such as the engine response, transmission, suspension and steering.

On the exterior, the E 43 comes with the AMG Line exterior kit, where sportier bumpers and side skirts are fitted as standard. However, the sedan gets an AMG single-bar diamond radiator grille with chrome pins rather than the dual-bar setup that is found on the fiery E 63 4Matic+. Another feature of the E 43’s front end is the pair of Multibeam LED headlamps.

Moving around the vehicle, you’ll also find a boot lid spoiler, AMG quad-exhaust tips and a Night Package styling kit. The latter, as the name implies, introduces a high-gloss black finish to the bumper trim, side mirror caps, exhaust tips and belt line trim.

Moving inside, the E 43’s seats are upholstered in black Nappa leather/Dinamica microfibre with red contrast stitching. In areas such as the dashboard and door cards, Artico man-made leather is applied instead. In line with the sedan’s sporty persona, an AMG sports steering wheel wrapped with Nappa leather, designo seat belts in red, sports pedals and carbon-fibre trim are all standard.

The equipment list also includes a dual-zone Thermotronic climate control system, widescreen cockpit with two 12.3-inch screens, panoramic roof, wireless mobile phone charging, Keyless-GO, hands-free boot access, a 360-degree camera, 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system and a heads-up display.

Infotainment duties are handled by a COMAND Online system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, touch-sensitive Touch Controls on the steering wheel and COMAND Touchpad Controller.

We now arrive at the ultimate question, how much is it? Well, the E 43 Matic is priced at RM658,888 on-the-road without insurance. Buyers can opt for the traditional hire purchase mode of purchase, or go with MBM’s Agility Financing programme, whereby the monthly repayment can be as low as RM6,588 per month (terms apply).
