Ford GT and Ken Block take on the Le Mans circuit

Even though Ken Block has driven some of the world’s most exciting cars, be it in any of the nine Gymkhana episodes or the FIA World Rallycross Championship, he has yet to get behind the wheel of the all-new Ford GT, until recently.

In conjunction with Ford’s participation in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, Block was handed the keys to a GT for a road trip around France before lapping the Circuit de la Sarthe a few times. Of course, given how rare (and expensive) the GT is, Block decided against bringing out his inner persona, “Tyre Slayer.”

“It was a pretty amazing experience to be able to drive this circuit in the GT and have the whole thing to myself,” Block wrote in a posting on his official Facebook page.

Nonetheless, the GT (in Track mode) still gets a pretty exciting workout, with Block hitting around 258 km/h down one of the circuit’s straights. You’ll also get to see the GT’s active aerodynamics in action, and hear the 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 as it is put through its paces.

The powerplant makes 647 hp and 746 Nm, which is plenty enough to propel the Blue Oval’s halo supercar and its 1,360 kg dry weight. If you can make do with less (weight), Ford also offers the GT in Competition Series flavour that removes “items not essential to performance” like the air-conditioning system, radio, speakers, stowage bins and cupholders.
