All AES cameras to capture from the back for clarity, and to get motorcycles – change started in July

There will be a change in how Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras capture images of traffic offenders – the cameras will now be positioned to capture images of vehicles from the back, said deputy transport minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi.

According to the report by The Sun, this change will apply to all existing AES cameras. The minister said that this technique is an international standard practice, and the authorities have captured rear shots quietly since July.

“The (idea) was mooted by the provider (of the camera system). It is the best approach because it can capture the vehicle registration number better from the back. Countries that have implemented this system include the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia,” he said.

The deputy minister said that the new approach is mainly to nab motorcyclists, which he points out are the most frequent traffic offenders and also contributors of accidents. “It is also to nab commercial vehicle drivers who use small and medium-sized vehicles for business,” Abdul Aziz added.

Currently, there are 21 AES cameras across the country, with 50 more to be installed this year according to JPJ. In June, Abdul Aziz said that 100 more AES cameras will be installed at strategic spots nationwide in 2018.

All talk big. Why even talk about AES, even until today, thousands of motorbikes beat the traffic lights infront of policeman.

Sometimes got even 4 polis man at the four junction lights, all just look at the bikes beating the red lights. They don’t do anything, they don’t chase, they don’t call for backup, neither do they ask the HQ to track the offender using CCTV all along federal highway.

Clever to talk big but nothing is done.

Thousands of bike ofenders daily but only 1 or 2 get saman.

Polis concentrate of saman cars. Why?

This is because polis themselves are bikers, so, they feel sorry for the bikers and let them go.

Can the Government tell us how many bikes get saman? There are few million bikes and in a year, only few thousand get saman.

Look at Federal Highway everyday, car lane has now become bike lane at all hours.

Whole day long you can see bikes on the fast lane from Shah Alam right up to KL

Not even one get saman. Sometimes the polis car also follow biker on the car lane but scared to do anything

Biker here, I agree with your sentiment.

Can’t defend the speeding one but unfortunately for us (I really would like to use the bike lane, really) the bike lane is in a really horrible condition.

Its basically a game of roller coaster, except you’re not guaranteed to come out alive.

          yes… second that…

Won’t mind if hiways implement toll to bikers, but make sure the motorcycle lanes also have the same attention as car lanes e.g. better roads, lightings etc

Because they are ordered to ease traffic, not to catch red light beater. And are you sure they are not scare crow / robot / figurine. They have that on highways. Pictures of police behind speed trap camera.

the camera should captured both the front & rear photons as the previous front photo taken will able to showed the driver face in case that is argument that car was drives by others drivers as AES penalty system are focus on driver/owner..

I know what U mean & I agree with U 100%. I don’t want to comment because by commenting here, U are doing a good job of correcting/teaching the authorities to be better(not that they will appreciate) & that will make their system better.

Let them make the mistake. The smarter chap will NOT pay the summon as they cannot identify the person. Like U said, AES is suppose to penalize the “driver”. He he he.

Does the PDRM realize how many motorbikes intentionally don’t use rear tail lights like trendy thingy? And how many cars brake lights don’t work ? Why not do a safety drive instilling these too

    • If pipu intentionally dun use rear lights, what kinda safety drive campaign that can teach them lawbreakers anything? They knew what they doing so just saman them all. They deserve it.

My friend work for the company which install the cam. And the company get paid on how much the system saman people. Why on earth they want to lowering their income? No such thing as saman from the back are better. The reason is bcz this system caught soo many vips. Some with their perempuan simpanan, some not wear seatbelt and doing other things. This is the only reason. The system should caught people either from front or back.

How to catch speeding big bikes when they don’t have any visible number plate?? And even if the “number plate” is visible, they are not legible. Malaysia is one of the few countries where the government does not issue standardized number plates.

The real reason is to prevent wives or girlfriends from questioning the driver as to who was next to them in the car. One of the comments raised during the AES presentation/discussion with the ministry.

The long term danger when we appoint private companies to manage AES and their commission is based on how many summons got issued is that their livelihood depended on the rakyat to continue to misbehave on the road. Supposed hypothetically in the far future the road users become more discipline, less summons is issued and they make less money but at that time they already become massive big rich companies. They would not tolerate less profit and possibly become influential corporate lobbyist and bribe politicans including MPs to lower highway speed and other stuff for them to continue make huge amounts of money. It is now no longer about road safety but corporate greed.
