The upcoming facelift of the G11/G12 BMW 7 Series will include significant upgrades to the 740e iPerformance plug-in hybrid model, BMWBlog has reported. In fact, so thorough are the changes – which will include an increased power output and greater range – that it could receive the 745e badge.
A more powerful electric motor will boost total system output from 326 hp to a whopping 390 hp, and according to the report, the 745e will retain the use of the current 258 hp/400 Nm B48 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine. However, the new car could instead receive a new, more economical and slightly more powerful four-pot making its debut on the facelifted MINI Hatch models next year.
Higher-density battery cells from the new i3 and i8 are also on the cards, enabling the 745e to travel further on a single charge; the wireless charging function introduced on the 530e will also be offered. With all these changes, BMW is said to be expecting the 745e to sell in greater numbers, although BMWBlog states that the 740e sales have already exceeded expectations.
Elsewhere, the greater 7 Series lineup will gain a new Live Cockpit digital instrument display – previewed on the Concept 8 Series and Z4 – that will be rolled out across the rest of the BMW range, including the new G20 3 Series.

More firepower is always welcomed.
When I read the title, I thought they’ll add 390hp on top of the current hp. That will be crazy!
390 hp for a big heavy car like that?
Will they delay the local launch of the 530e to incorporate these upgrades?
The title is a bit misleading. I thought bloody hell, they gave an “additional” 390 horsepower. In the end, that was the total output. But 390 is still quite a lot.
