Yesterday, the ministry of finance (MoF) announced that the switch to zero percent GST will be made on June 1, ahead of an eventual reintroduction of the sales and services tax (SST). In preparation for the move to 0% GST, Proton has decided to offer its customers an interim pricing scheme to ensure its customers benefit from the change.

The automaker said that with immediate effect, all Proton cars sold and registered from May 16 to May 31, 2018 will include service vouchers equivalent in value to the difference between the current and new price of the car after GST is zero rated.

Additionally, Proton Customer Care is offering a 6% discount on periodical maintenance (labour and periodical maintenance parts only) to all owners who bring their car in for servicing at authorised service centres. This service initiative will run from May 19 to May 31.

Customers who service their cars from May 16 to May 18 will be given a 6% discount during their vehicle’s next scheduled service (subject to showing the receipt from their previous service).

“Proton is supportive of the new Malaysian government’s efforts to reduce the cost of living for the rakyat. Despite zero-rated GST only coming into effect on June 1, we have decided to reward our customers immediately as a token of gratitude for their support and in the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan,” said Proton VP of sales and marketing Abdul Rashid Musa.

These offers are in addition to the current Kosong-kosong promotion, where buyers of the Iriz (Executive and Premium variant), Ertiga (all variants) and Exora (all variants) who sign up for nine-year loan tenures with Hong Leong Bank are eligible for 0% financing for the first year.

Those who opt for the Saga or Persona instead and finance their purchase with a seven-year loan from Proton Commerce will be eligible to receive free three-months instalment, subject to terms and conditions.
