GST zero-rated: Full Honda pricelist, up to RM18k less

Honda Malaysia (HM) has released its full price list with zero-rated GST, which will be effective from June 1. Before this, we only knew the 0% GST prices for four models – City (non-hybrid), Civic, CR-V and HR-V – as those are part of a GST Bonus programme where HM is absorbing GST until May 31.

These new prices – which are on-the-road excluding insurance – will remain in effect until the sales and services tax (SST) comes back to replace GST. Set at 10%, SST will happen “in two, three months” time according to Tun Daim Zainuddin of the government’s Council of Eminent Persons. That’s a fairly large tax-free window of opportunity, should you want to take advantage.

Without GST, savings range from RM4,088 for the CKD Jazz to RM18,072 for the CBU from UK Civic Type R. That’s before Honda’s “Welcome Festive Rewards” promo, which should bring prices further down. No details yet, but it might be a continuation of the current “Welcome Ramadan Rewards” promo, which offers cash rebates and/or service vouchers. It runs till May 31.

There may be slight variations in the percentage of reduction, which is typically slightly less than 6% flat. This is because 6% GST is only applied on the selling price of a car (and in the case of CBU models, a Puspakom inspection fee), before GST-free registration essentials such as road tax, registration fee and ownership endorsement fee are added on.

Besides new car sales, GST for spare parts and service maintenance, including labour charges and genuine accessories, will be zero-rated from June 1.

Dude, the poor are exempted from paying income tax. The rich pay way more taxes. A 100k wage earner pays a few thousand tax per year. A 200k wage earner pays 30k tax per year. A 300k wage eaner pays ~50k tax per year. On top of this, they dont get any other benefits. While I’m not earning as much, I hope I could. Being rich is not a sin. For someone who pays over 50k tax per year, they are entitled to be subsidized a little by the govt. It’s quite fair to me. Tax the poor and subsidize the rich is a overboard exaggeration.

    RM100k to RM200k 6% GST,
    RM200k to RM300k 8% GST,
    RM300k to RM400k 10% GST,
    RM400k to RM500k 12% GST,
    RM500k to RM600k 14% GST,
    RM600k to RM700k 16% GST,
    RM800k to RM900k 18% GST,
    RM900k to RM 1 million 20% GST,
After RM 1 million all keep 20% GST…
Tax the rich to save the country so no problem!

Why are car manufacturer only reduce ~6%? If GST is layered tax, the reduction should be more than 6% compounded over a few levels.
