The Road Transport Department (RTD/JPJ) has revealed that it will not hesitate to take action on those who purposely stop their vehicles to perform the ‘Keke Challenge’ on public roads.
According to a Berita Harian report, JPJ director Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid said his team will refer to the constitution of the law, and will take necessary measures against those (particularly the younger generation) who perform this potentially hazardous act.
“Such an act [the dance] is certainly not permitted. We will take action against those who break the rules, and this includes causing potential danger to other road users as well. In fact, we won’t be the only one to act on it – the traffic police force will also issue a fine to whoever is caught in the act,” he told the press during a recent visit to the immigration complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam.
To the uninitiated, the Keke Challenge requires a person to jump out of a slow-moving car and almost immediately perform a dance move to the tune of a song titled ‘In My Feelings’ by Canadian rapper Drake. The dance was made popular by comedian Shiggy and was later performed by the likes of Will Smith, Ciara and several other high profile individuals.
The silly trend also caught on locally, where a number of artists have posted videos of themselves doing the challenge on their respective Instagram accounts. What a funny time to be alive, isn’t it? Whatever the case, guys, please desist from carrying out such an act on public roads. It’s just not worth the risk.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
malaysians are always followers, never leaders in any of these viral challenges.
malaysians are pioneers in “Sambung bayar” challenges.
Perhaps JPJ/PDRM should focus more on basic things such as nabbing those who do not wear seat belts which have become so rampant now? Or maybe go all out to encourage and educate parents to use child seat?
Always feel like wanna slap those irresponsible parents that letting their children climb here climb there, jump here jump there in the car. JPJ PDRM, please lock those stupid adult, irresponsible parents, instead of Keke Challenge. Please la.
wow .. dancing like a monkey!
Keke Challenge, not wearing seatbelt, not using childseat, etc are offences that needed to be booked by authority. While the latest craze can be seen as cute, it is still dangerous. People are whily-nilly doing it and posting it on social media. These should be a strong case for booking as it is evidence(s) that our local authority can use.
Our local authority has been speaking about these being offences etc but until a real action has been taken, people will treat this as NATO (no action talk only). Please get your act together for once.
What about Keke Rosberg challenge?
I hope ppl performing this KEKE will have their car bang a tree, or run into a big monsoon drain…..and the insurance company refuse to cover the damage due to their high level of stupidity…
Always like to follow stupid things….bodoh!
Otak kosong….
Meanwhile the damn glaring white head lamps, particularly BMW… haihz… talk until today still no stern enforcements to restore the public road safety
RTD…Don’t just talk…Take ACTION! RTD Always NATO..No Action Talk Only..
Bodoh punya kerja. Even the name is stupid. What is wrong with the society nowadays? Tidak ada kerja lain buat kah? What’s next? Paloi punya budak sekarang. Stupid has never had any finishes, it has just begun.
