Alongside the new Toyota Camry, distributor UMW Toyota Motor is also previewing the new Toyota Vios at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur Intenational Motor Show (KLIMS), with the order books opening today. The popular B-segment sedan has been completely revised and is based on the latest ASEAN-market Yaris hatchback.

Three variants will be available at launch, with pricing for the Vios 1.5 J estimated at RM77,200, the 1.5 E at RM81,200 and the 1.5 G at RM87,300. Included is a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

The distinctive front fascia is shared with the Yaris, with slim upper grille and headlights paired to a massive lower grille with integrated LED daytime running lights. The sleeker body and neater rear end with broader tail lights are also carried over.

Ditto the interior, which features a more modern design and a three-spoke steering wheel from the Corolla Altis. Power comes from a carryover 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine, making 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. This powertrain – paired to a CVT with seven virtual ratios – was introduced on the Vios in 2016.

Standard kit includes reflector halogen headlights with a follow-me-home function, 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, fabric seats, a drive mode switch with Eco and Sport modes, automatic air-conditioning, illuminated door sill scuff plates, front footwell illumination, rear parking sensors and a CD/radio head unit with Bluetooth and four speakers.

The mid-spec E adds LED tail lights, fog lights, auto-fold door mirror with indicators, an acoustic glass windscreen, 60:40 split-folding rear seats with a centre armrest, a multifunction steering wheel and a DVD-AVX infotainment system with a 360-degree camera system and a front digital video recorder (i.e. dashcam).

Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control and rear ISOFIX child seat anchors, with the E and G variants also getting a blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.

Available colours include the new Dark Blue Metallic, Red Metallic, Attitude Black, Silver Metallic and Super White II. Also on offer are options including a RM2,160 DVD-AVX system for the J variant, a RM350 rear digital video recorder, RM2,120 premium solar and security tint for the J and E variants and a RM2,800 aerokit that you see here.

  • Again, this new Vios will be the best selling compact car together with Honda City in the Asian countries. A testament to the legendary time and tested never break down top notch Japanese quality and RV. Other brands can just pack up and go home.

Now at least new Vios design is much better than previous dugong Vios. The price of course a bit expensive. And very sure most of the youngest people after finishing their studying in secondary school, many people will buy new Vios because of greater fuel economy, advanced safety features including having 7 airbags which is more safe for the customers to drive as well as having many features too. Not only that, many people also buy Honda City Hybrid, Not because of having advanced safety features, it is because City Hybrid have Hybrid Engine which doesn’t give out pollution as lesser carbon emissions that gives greener environment. However, City Hybrid have 4 airbags as compare to Newer Toyota Vios. To me, it was expected that many people will surely buy new Toyota Vios while many people will surely buy Honda City Hybrid.

It looks like a decent car full of safety features. Definitely the best in its class. Much improved ,neat design and full of features only seen in higher grade cars. I like the rear design with that LED line, front design maybe need to give some time it will grow on me. Cant really satisfy everyone in terms of design. Finally a car worth looking at from Toyota! Kudos.

M40 spent their annual leave on holiday. B40 spent annual leave at service centre and not know what’s the problem with the car.

          • And thats the reason why P1 strives to gip M40 spec cars to those B40 who otherwise wud be stuck at their competitors service centers not know whats the problem with their P2s.

the new Vios design is greater overall, but that’s. The new Vios is actually smaller than the old one in term of space and the plastic material used inside the cabin was cheap. The current Honda City was better in term of plastic material and most important is space is much spacious than new Vios. What the heck Toyota thinking in their mind. Those who not believe please go to KLIMS or showroom in later time to check it out yourself. I guess Honda SA is smiling their City sales will continue up.

  • Previous Paultan’s article said about hate-it or love-it design of this new Vios. Definitely that’s what I thinking. Good point is better equipment especially in term of safety. I feel the new Altis unveiled a few weeks ago got subtle design to enhancing their boldness than Vios.

paultan is it true as u mentioned that the transmission just the same as 2016 model? because in early 2018 toyota had introduced new cvt with lunch gear, direct shift-CVT.
