Toyota Yaris facelift launched in Indonesia, fr RM67k

Toyota has launched the Yaris facelift in Indonesia. The B-segment hatchback is similar in appearance to the Thai-market Yaris eco car, which was launched in September 2017.

In the Land of Smiles, the Yaris and Yaris Ativ sedan are Thai eco cars with entry level price tags and 1.2 litre engines. No such restrictions in Indonesia, where the Yaris will be positioned higher than the Daihatsu Ayla and Toyota Agya Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) twins, which come with 1.0L and 1.2L engines.

In Indonesia, the Toyota Yaris will be a relatively premium choice with a 1.5 litre engine. The motor in question is the 2NR unit also found in our Perodua Myvi and Toyota Vios, with DOHC and Dual VVT-i. It makes 107 PS and 140 Nm of torque, and is mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Three grades are available – E, G and the TRD Sportivo – which makes it six variants in total.

The TRD gets exclusive kit such as projector headlamps (with a red ring accent), bodykit with rear spoiler, LED DRLs, 16-inch two-tone alloys and LED tail lamps. The latter two are also available in the G. Inside, the TRD range topper comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio buttons, shift paddles and Sport/Eco modes (CVT only), Optitron meters with colour TFT multi-info display, push start and auto air con.

For ICE, the top car gets a seven-inch DVD-AVX head unit with Miracast, Weblink and six speakers. Safety wise, all variants get ABS/EBD/BA, VSC, HSA, seven airbags. Prices range from Rp 235.4 juta (RM67,397) for the E MT to Rp 275.9 juta (RM78,981) for the TRD Sportivo CVT.

The new Daihatsu Sirion – a rebadged Myvi imported CBU from Malaysia – was recently launched in Indonesia with the sole engine choice of a 1.3L. The absence of a Sirion equivalent of the fully loaded Myvi 1.5L Advance in Indonesia fits the Toyota-Daihatsu product positioning jigsaw nicely – products wearing the T badge usually occupy a higher rung, reserved for the Yaris 1.5L. The new Sirion is priced from Rp 182.5 juta (RM52,655) to Rp 193.5 juta (RM55,819) there.

We are lucky we got the Myvi here. At RM50k, we are actually buying a RM90k Toyota Vios. This is because the Myvi uses 100% a Toyota Vios engine.

I suggest to people, don’t crack your head as to what car to buy. Just buy the 2018 Myvi. It uses a time tested VVTi Toyota engine.

Toyota vios engine is different from the perodua myvi. Toyota vios use 2NR-FE while myvi use 2NR-VE.. it’s totally different.

Why is it every other nation in SEA sells Yaris, but UMW only sells Fortuneless, Taklawanza, Angsa and other “no-ong” cars?

Toyota’s designers are really a clueless group of people that doesn’t take their job seriously. How can a large car producer still produces cars of the 80’s in this era? Cheap plastics dominate the dashboard and all the cheap styling cues on the exterior really turns me off. Yuck!!!

In Msia, cannot launch to fight Jazz and P2, hatchback segment.. Will jeopardize P2 record breaking sales, as P2 engine supply by Daihatsu / Toyota..

The main reason why cars like Yaris and other small cars don’t make it here is simple – the share of the profits of best selling cars goes to the government. The same with luxury cars.
