Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Toyota Hilux AN220/AN230 is a five-seat electric pick-up for Malaysian buyers who want an AWD truck rather than a conventional diesel ute. Launched for 2026, it comes solely as the Hilux EV, from RM226,300, with a 59.2 kWh battery and 257 km range.

Hilux in 2026 — what's new

The AN220/AN230 Hilux arrives in Malaysia for 2026 as the Thai CBU Hilux EV, following its March 2026 Bangkok unveiling as the Travo-e. Malaysia receives a single EV derivative rather than the Japanese-market 2.8-litre diesel featured in the wider 2026 launch. It uses a 59.2 kWh battery, all-wheel drive and a single-speed automatic, with 257 km of range.

Verdict

The Hilux nameplate has been a sales leader in Malaysia’s pick-up segment for some time, and this new-generation EV gives it an electric entry. Its 257 km WLTP range, AWD layout and five-seat cabin make the specification clear enough. But the Hilux EV is the priciest of the three electric pick-ups named here, sitting above both the Maxus eTerron 9 and JAC T9 EV.
