Polestar 2 gets teased – up to 483 km of range, 400 hp

With development of the Polestar 1 still underway, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Volvo Cars has now teased the arrival of the Polestar 2. Unlike the first model from the company, which is a high-performance PHEV coupe, its second offering will be fully electric and takes the shape of a four-door fastback.

The accompanying image is your only view of the car that you’re going to get for now, and it reveals cues such as muscular haunches, a rather large rear window and slim taillights.

According to the company, production of the Polestar 2 will only start shortly after the Polestar 1 begins rolling off assembly lines later this year.

The company’s first battery electric vehicle is claimed to offer 483 km of range on a single charge and 400 hp from its powertrain. All final specifications will be announced later on, Polestar says.

Given the importance of connectivity in vehicles, the Polestar 2 will debut a new infotainment system that is based on Google’s Android operating system, which also includes an in-car version of Google Assistant.

The Polestar 2 will look to take on the Tesla Model 3 not just in terms of performance, but also in price. The company says its model will be sold in the Model 3 price range, which is between USD44,000 to USD62,000 before incentives in the United States.

Besides conventional cash sales, the vehicle will also be available on a subscription basis that Polestar says is a more premium version of its sister brand’s Care by Volvo package.

After the Polestar 1 and 2, the company will bring out an SUV model that is ambitiously called the Polestar 3.

I got a feeling, in the long run, Polestar will be more successful than Tesla. Not so much from a technological stand but from a marketing point of view.

I hope no Proton fanboy will come here and say this technology also will go into Proton cars. Now already they are kelentonging people by telling Proton X70 got Mercedes AMG technology because Geely owns 10% of Daimler AG.

Aiyooo, Proton fanboys. If this is true, nobody will buy Mercedes, Volvo or Polestar anymore lah
