2020 Hyundai Sonata – new 1.6L T-GDi engine, 180 hp

Hyundai has finally released some details regarding the all-new Sonata, ahead of its global debut at the 2019 Seoul Motor Show. The new D-segment sedan, which rides on the automaker’s third-generation platform, will get a new Smart Stream 1.6 litre turbocharged direct injection engine (T-GDi) that produces 180 hp, and it’s married to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Visually, the Sonata 1.6 Turbo is highlighted by the automaker’s ‘Parametric Jewel’ radiator grille, complete with air ducts beneath the headlights that help channel air through the bumper and across the face to reduce drag. Behind, the boot lid gets a wing-shaped spoiler that adds stability at higher speeds, and it also gets a unique rear bumper and twin-tip exhaust exits.

Inside, the Sonata gets a completely overhauled cabin, starting with a new dashboard layout that is highlighted by a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a winged-shaped instrument binnacle. Hyundai designers say the cabin is supposed to create a “lightweight feeling,” hence the slim air vents. The gearstick has been replaced by buttons, with switchgear for the drive mode selector and driver assistance systems placed nearby.

Compared to the preceding model, the new Sonata is longer at 4,900 mm (+45 mm), wider at 1,890 mm (+25 mm) and has an enlarged wheelbase of 2,840 mm (+35 mm), although the sleeker look shaves off some height, which now measures 1,445 mm (-30 mm). It’s been said that the fastback styling is reminiscent of models like the Volkswagen Arteon and Audi A7 Sportback. At the Seoul show, the Sonata 1.6 Turbo will be joined by the Veloster N, i30 N and the NEXO. Interested? Stay tuned for more details!

Wow, what a great looking car! Reminds me of our Proton.

Hyundai and Proton started around the same time.

Both car brands were same same. In fact, sometimes, even Proton was better than Hyundai

But one day, korean workers started to sedar diri. They worked hard instead of drinking teh all day and lazing around. No more lepak attitude. They started to produce great cars.

This is why now, Hyundai is one of the top car brands in this world. Proton, now, can only rebadge Geely cars.

What a shame. 30 years of automotive experience go masuk longkang

Yeah, 30 years of automotive but at last Game Over… So disappointing!! I rather support Perodua because Perodua have been making so many Game Changing cars that have been proven. Proton in the other hand, proven to be a Game Over company with poor sales…

Seriously dude, you need to a grip. You’re whining about things that are, for better or worse, in the past. If it’s any consolation to you, P1 IS currently moving in the direction that, not just you, but everyone here that keeps coming back to PT, wants it to. So why not let this new venture incubate.
And blaming the workforce for the weakness of the leadership is just low. Just like blaming govt staff for ministers failures – that is just stupid. They don’t make policies like the AP issue, they just execute instructions. Even a school kid understands this.

      • Bro. Do u understand that he is angry becoz P1 is becoming successful, not because it isnt? His rice bowl is getting threatened when looking at his empty Toyota showroom.

  • Despite the overall weirdo design, they still had time to find ridiculous new names to call their grilles. “Parametric Jewel”. Oh please.

Automakers should stop naming their grilles like how certain men name their own jewels.

Wow, such a superb looking car with such an advanced engine. No wonder Hyundai can sell 8 million cars globally.

Hyundai first car was in 1974, just 10 years before Proton launched their own car.

But one company sells 8 million cars and another sell 50,000 cars annually

After Elantra, another weird design from Hyundai appears. Did they ran out of foreign designer juices or something? This is the result from throwing billions into their R&D?

This design has given the Coke Bottle a new meaning – love the car dimensions all right – but comfort? We’ll have to wait for a year or two!
