Ghosn sues Nissan, Mitsubishi for RM69 million in damages for ‘grave mistakes’ in dismissal – report

It has been three months since former chairman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance Carlos Ghosn addressed the public on video following his first arrest last year, and as many would have expected, Ghosn has countered with a court case against Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors, Reuters quoted a report by Dutch newspaper NRC.

The former alliance chief is seeking 15 million euros (RM69 million) in damages from the automakers. Japanese prosecutors charged Ghosn with financial misconduct, essentially under-reporting his income, while Nissan and Mitsubishi claimed that Ghosn improperly received $9 million (RM37 million). Ghosn has denied these charges, and resigned from his positions at Renault in January.

“In the Netherlands, if you want to fire an executive you have to first tell him what he’s being accused of, and you have to provide him with the evidence for the accusations. Neither of those things has happened,” lawyer Laurens de Graaf told the Dutch newspaper. Ghosn was granted bail early in March after his first arrest, although he was re-arrested shortly thereafter.

Prosecutors who charged Ghosn for financial misconduct last year also charged Nissan for filing false financial statements, and the automaker said that it took the situation extremely seriously. The district court in Amsterdam is reviewing the case but has not set a trial date yet, NRC reported.

Its telling that he isn’t suing the Renault part, so his loyalty to Renault is still there and they are continuing to back him up silently. Kudos to Renault for sticking with their man, but very shame for Nissan & Mitsubishi. This is the true colours of Japan Inc and I’m ashamed to called them fellow Asians.

Brian, you are absolutely right. Never trust those corporate Japan! Just look at Proton during the Mitsubishi era, they were just passing outdated technology to us. A BIG difference compared to GEELY. The good thing about Japan? Maria Ozawa, Hentais, Animes, Mangas (especially One Piece).

I read on Honda FB many of these ‘proud’ Honda owners are fuming that the car quality is not reflecting on Honda brandname nor from a Japanese brand. They complain car quality is worse than Perodua & Proton.

When the Dutch presented their investigation findings on MH17, they didn’t do it in Dutch.

  • Nissan thought the odds would be on its side since Ghosn was arrested in Japan, its home country. His backstabbers in Nissan probably expected Ghosn to go down without much fighting and would quietly accept a plea bargain but oh, how wrong they were. This fiasco will open more cans of worms for all those involved.

Global cars now comes with ESC & TC as mandatory standard and yet your Perodua still selling Alza without both features. Has anybody sued your Perodua for still selling cars without adequate safety features? Why not you do so, you faker?

Dont blame the Japanese. Blame the lembap UMW people who own Perodua. They are so lembap and agree everything to what the Japanese say.

Local GLC like UMW don’t have proper negotiating skills to ask the Japanese more safety spec for the rakyat of Malaysia.

This is why we need more Mainland people from China to run our GLCs and even Putrajaya so that productivity will improve and negotiating skills increase.

      • Stupid to blame others for your failings. If the japs never gave these tech in the first place how can it be UMW fault? Oh but you can blame Perodua bosses for swallowing every faulty car they are given.
