At the Tokyo Motor Show last week, Daihatsu previewed a nameless compact SUV, which reports indicated could be known as the Rocky. It’s now confirmed that the five-seat, B-segment offering will be known by that name, as revealed by photos from an Instagram post by mr.t.tani showing a number of examples of the SUV on a transporter in Japan, with Rocky badges visible on their tailgates.
The Rocky isn’t a new nameplate for the brand, having been around since the early ’90s – the first-gen was sold here, albeit badged under its other moniker, the Feroza. Towards the end of the 90s, the name was replaced by the Terios, which was sold here as the Perodua Kembara in its first-gen form, and later very briefly as the Nautica (and Toyota Rush) in its second-gen guise.
Specifications revealed at the TMS has the Rocky – which sits on a Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform – tipping the scales at 980 kg, and at 3,995 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,620 mm tall, with a 2,525 mm-long wheelbase, the SUV is slightly larger than the current Myvi, which measures in at 3,895 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,515 mm tall, with a 2,500 mm-long wheelbase.
The Rocky is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled three-cylinder 996 cc petrol engine offering 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 4,000 rpm, the mill paired with a CVT. The same engine and output numbers are to be seen in the upcoming Toyota Raize, which is the Rocky’s twin.
It has been speculated that the upcoming Perodua D55L B-segment SUV is set to be based on the Rocky. Spyshots earlier in the month showed a Perodua development model – which appeared to be a test mule wearing a stretched Axia body – going up Genting Highlands. At last year’s Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show, the automaker showcased a vehicle called the X-Concept, hinting at a small crossover possibly in the works.
Now that the Daihatsu Rocky and Toyota Raize nameplates have emerged, what do you think the eventual Perodua version should be called? The return of the Kembara? The Stallone?

After the gempak Aruz, then new Perodua BAGUZ.
Aruz is like premature ejaculation. Syiok sendiri so much that it shoot too fast, now the sales become lemau and cannot go up anymore. Baguz will bagus to end up in graveyard.
So confirmed will be Perodua Batu. All looks but cannot go.
FWD… -_-”
if 1.5L MT then might consider…
Daihatsu Rocky
Toyota Raize
Perodua Naize
Hope p2 bring manual version!!!
I think the extended axia test run by p2 last week is just testing the new 1.0 turbi engine, 1kr-vet. Then if everything is fine they will go ahead produce this d55l suv base on Rocky.
i guess the chance will be very slim…
P2 doesnt even bother to offer MT option for the bloody aRuZ which indon has all the fun with it…
>_<
1,695 mm tall and 1,620 mm wide?
1695mm wide, 1620mm tall:

Yes, the panel is correct. The source story inadvertently flipped it, and has been corrected in both original story and here. Thanks for the spot.
will arrive in Malaysia as Perodua Baguz/Cantix/Henzem…
Not 1620 mm wide.
Should be measuring 3,995 mm long, 1,695 mm wide, 1,620 mm tall, with a 2,525 mm wheelbase.
Yup, flipped in both original story and here. Edited.
Heard the new Toyota 1 L turbo can propel this sexy beast from 0 to 100 in 7.5 seconds. Once perodua launched this beast, Geely X70 and X50 can collect dusts at the graveyard
X50 about 180ps 240Nm can only 7.9sec… this 1.0turbo 90hp 140Nm… cannot be 8s 0 to 100km/h…. 17 sec or more, more logic and reasonable…
compare the weight to power ratio…this rocky even lighter than myvi
7.5 secs. That is just slightly slower than the Q3.
Good imaginative but never happen
Perodua Takbeli
Terus jadi Perodua Mati.
Perodua batu-bata
4×4 HL and LL mode?
think it looks good
the return of the kembara
Ok perodua suv.. Is a economy practical small suv.. Better than current potong stim car.. Except China made geli car.. Well done P2.. Bye bye.kampro bye bye potong design
Actually, both the Daihatsu Feroza and the Daihatsu Rocky were sold in Malaysia at different times. The article got it wrong, I believe. I remember this because my dad liked the Rocky but not the Feroza.
this is a much better buy than the underpowered Aruz
