The Geely Jiaji L has been launched in China several months after it was sighted back in April this year. The new MPV is a facelifted and stretched version of the current Jiaji and is offered in three variants with prices ranging from 119,800 to 142,800 yuan (RM77,688 to RM92,603).
As we’ve seen previously, the Jiaji L sports a revised front fascia that now features Geely’s Vision Starburst design philosophy. Instantly recognisable is the X-shaped face that bears a new grille with an “Infinite Weave” design reminiscent of those on Proton models, which replaces the current Jiaji’s “expanding cosmos” look.
Below that, we find a more expressive lower intake flanked by triangular inserts that integrate LED light strips. At the rear, the two-piece taillights have been reshaped and sport a more prominent light signature, with what appears to be a light bar linking both clusters just beneath a Geely script. The rear apron is also sportier thanks to the vertical slits at the corners of the bumper and silver accent trim.
In terms of dimensions, the Jiaji L is longer at 4,826 mm (+120 mm) and has a slightly lower height of 1,695 mm (-18 mm) compared to the regular Jiaji but retains the same width (1,909 mm) and wheelbase (2,805 mm).
Moving inside, the new model gets an updated infotainment system (powered by the company’s E02 system-on-chip) that still retains a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the digital instrument cluster has been upgraded from seven inches to a larger 10.25-inch unit.
The “busy” centre console of the current Jiaji has been replaced with a simpler design that allows for a longer covered storage cubby alongside a new gear lever, electronic parking brake and drive mode selector arrange in a single file. These are located ahead of a raised arm rest with additional storage under the tilt-up lid. Seating layouts remain the same, with 2-2-2 and 2-3-2 options available.
As for engines, all variants of the Jiaji L are powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 181 PS (178 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm. The mill is paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission to send drive to the front wheels, and Geely claims a WLTC-rated fuel consumption of 6.9 l/100 km and top speed of 190 km/h.
Available equipment for the MPV include LED headlamps, 17- or 18-inch wheels, powered front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control with rear vents and CN95 air filtration, keyless entry and start, a wireless phone charger, six speakers, the usual mix of passive safety systems, six airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control.
Referring to Geely’s Chinese website, it appears the regular Jiaji with the 1.8 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been dropped from the line-up. The plug-in hybrid version is still being sold and continues to employ a 1.5 litre turbo three-pot with 177 PS (174 hp) and 255 Nm as well as an electric motor for a total system output of 258 PS (255 hp) and 415 Nm.
The Jiaji with the PHEV powertrain is also offered in three variants but is pricier, as it retails for between 151,800 and 174,800 yuan (RM98,439 and RM113,354). It has been rumoured previously that the Jiaji will serve as a basis for an all-new Exora, which recently received a slight update in Malaysia. Do you prefer the look of the original Jiaji or the newer Jiaji L?

Dear Proton, please improve your after sales Service as well as car reliability within the warranty period first, before any rebadging plan…..
In recent news KPDNHEP is considering to implement the Lemon Law here.
Finally we may enjoy 10yrs car warranty (unlimited mileage) with 1 to 1 car replacement for faulty units with no question asked policy.
Ramai jugak cybertroopers si Perodua ni. “Outalingam Crap” and “Raja Kamarul”, cuba tengok socmed and even some mainstream news lah. Nak menipun kena ada akal sikit bro!
The reality is all car brands faced parts shortages. Some still worse than others
https://paultan.org/2022/09/01/toyota-global-production-results-july-2022/
But some, like proton, has resolved it very fast. Me? When I got my Saga in 2020, I never had to wait for normal servicing parts and not more than a week for uncommon part but the problem is blown to outerspace proportions by haters who never had a Proton before.
Earlier Geely Jiaji Short boot 1.8T 99,800yuan/RM60k+
Geely Jiaji Long boot 1.5T 119,800yuan/ RM77k+
Now long boot with X50 1.5 engine.
Exora 1.6 replacement?
Unlikely since it is already tested in Malaysia the Exora replacement is the Geely Okavango and not the Jiaji.
Not X50 1.5 engine. Please read carefully. 1.5T 4 cylinder engine, not 3 cylinder engine.
The improve in the interior space is really good. The gear knob is really nice compared to the one in the x50. The other interior design looks outdated.
But still hoping for Proton/Geely to bring it here. Offer it in full spec with stop and go ACC and please bring in the new 4 cylinder 1.5T engine as well.
Malaysian family got 1,2,3 or many kids plus maid plus strollers. Need at least 6-seater vehicle for comfortable journey.
Would be nice if it is offered in AWD for added traction during slippery road condition.
What could have been Exora replacement. But proton decided to sell the junk Exora with nonexistent improvement instead of this.
Exora with 2 airbags, in 2022.
Yep..u might sound offensive, but the Truth hurts.
Exora is no doubt TRASH,Sunset,Jurassic..only paleontologists will appreciate.
Dr.Li is buying time, while pushing DRB to come up with the 200 grand royalty fee upfront for right handed Jiaji.
LOL! Self-confessed P2 sales dude giving himself multiple ‘likes’ and self congratulatory replies still do not change the fact that Exora is the MPV leader by far and toughest competition to beat. Perhaps because it is aptly so dinosaur that it will take eons for Alza to catch up its sales much less ‘beat it’. P2 have made the wrong decision once more with their overpriced cars.
Expander with 2 airbags:
Infinite weave pun Geely sudah siap dekat China, apa lagi tinggal mahu buat dekat Proton? Bubuh logo ajelah. Itu left-right conversion pun sudah siap dekat China, tunggu pasang aje.
Although I do hope next gen Exora will be home-grown model from Proton, but after seeing this Jiaji L, it would be okay if Proton rebadge it to be next gen Exora. But Don’t hope for price to be in current region. I believe it will shoot up to 100k or even more for the techs, safety and engine.
same size as Odyssey, in fact wider. The H is priced at 250k, this MPV uses similar power train as X70 and X50 so in terms of tech, is more or less the same hence should be priced around 120k(throw in 2 extra seats foc)? this will dabao all the MPV in malaysia.
like all lwb or extended version of any car model it is exclusive only to china if you are comparing this to a normal odyssey you should compare it to the extended version of the odyssey in china.
Dear Proton, please expedite to bring this 6-7 seater to Malaysia. Currently P2 still struggling to deliver the order for new Alza. Lots of quality issues also. Now is the right time to ‘steal’ customers from P2.
Bradder Ismail
U cant just bring the right handed version of Jiaji in as u like.
The royalty 200 juta RM ..DRB has to cough out first upfront.U think Geely is giving u for free their vehicles?
Only in movies.Never in real life.
Rebadge after rebadge. What joke proton has now become….
At least when it was a ‘Mitsubishi’ (it received a lot of sticks back then), Proton still holds a majority of the majority stake. I still support Proton cars back then, Saga (2), Aeroback and Satria. After seeing no improvement in development I lost hope already. Its supporting foreign cars the same.
Looks like a crossover to me, with the rear swing door & bigger tyres.
This is what proton should bring to malaysia. Instead it brings a D segment suv that will surely cost more than a x70. Joke management since the 90’s
Why this model not coming to Malaysia. Malaysian need MPV rather than SUV.
