Musk: Tesla to have ‘significant investment’ in India

Elon Musk meets India PM Modi

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says a ‘significant investment and relationship’ with India is in the works and plans to do so ‘as fast as humanly possible’.

He added that he doesn’t want to jump the gun, but hopes to announce something in the not so distant future. He told this to reporters after meeting India PM Narendra Modi in New York.

Sometime last month, Musk said Tesla would be picking a location for the next Tesla Gigafactory by the end of 2023. There have been various locations speculated including India and Indonesia.

Tesla already has 5 Gigafactory locations operating, and a sixth has already been announced in Mexico. An Indian factory would be the American EV maker’s seventh plant.

The other locations are Nevada, New York, Shanghai, Berlin and Texas. Tesla has other factory locations as well such as Fremont in California, USA, but those aren’t ‘Gigafactory’ level.

Tesla had already previously registered Indian subsidiaries in January 2021 and there were initial reports that sales of Tesla cars were to begin that year, but it seems plans didn’t work out. It was reported that Tesla wanted tax cuts for CBU imports because it didn’t have a plant in India, but the government would not budge. This would no longer be an issue if Tesla had cars rolling out from Gigafactory India.

You still thought covid was from China?? Hahaha. Watching too much fake news I see. Google up “Mysterious Lung disease CDC” and look at the timeline when did so many americans suddenly dying from unknown lung disease. 2 months before Covid was discovered by the top notch doctors in China. Look it up. No wonder you don’t rank high up in Global Intelligence Index.

Yes Communism is the best and way better. All you need to do is buy a ticket and visit India and CHINA. The answer will be glaringly obvious which government is better :) I bet you know nothing about communist ideology. Try reading about it. Stop being a brainless parrot repeating only what the US government tells you.

This will be start of TESLA collapse. We all witness how all big companies including FORD became bankrupt the moment they step in to India. Will be nice to see Elon Musk learn it first hand. I am very excited to see how this investment turns out. Anyway he was almost bankrupt before until he open his factory in Shanghai and became the world’s richest man in such a short time. So going back to where he strted at near bankrupt level isn’t a new thing for him. This will be a perfect case study for many investors

You are half right. Where headaches are cheap. Recently an article of Winstron, an apple subsidary who tried to relocate from China to India. Less than a year of operation in India, they could not take it. They went back to Zhengzhou in China and double up their investment there. The company said that it was their biggest mistake to moved to India. He said even though the salary is 4 times less than rural chinese workers, the productivity is extremely bad. More headaches than results. They need at least 10 indian workers to do the work of 1 chinese labour in China. Goodle it up. Similar encounter with TSMC. All moving back. Not sure how come like that. As far as I know, Indians are very hard workers.

Its fun to see clowns commenting about India and Tesla, The guy who is leading Tesla’s FSD is an American of Indian origin and a Tamilian to precise Ashok Elluswamy. Another Indian American leads the Dojo effort which will help Tesla further its FSD.

Tesla already has R&D happening in India and gives out internships to kids in Grad school at UT in Austin, of whom many are from India.

Tesla will be investing in India more from Clean energy and grid storage perspective and also be the only factory for all vehicles for the RHD market.

You should really study the fate of most international business in India. Almost all collapse and cannot survive especially manufacturing based companies.A country with poor infrastructure, unstable energy supply and low quality workforce is a recipe for disaster. The worst thing an employer wants to hear from his staff in India is “Ok boss”, “definitely boss” “100% can boss”.. When your staff in India appears to be very confident you know a big disaster is gonna happen. Ford moved out, Harley moved out, Apple down sizing secretely, IBM down sizing massively quietly, Amazon collapsed etc.. Its a graveyard for international companies there. Lets see if TESLA survives. Elon Musk is one of the smartest man alive today, if he alway bankrupt over there then impossible for any big business to survive there

Once again looks like your head is firmly buried in your posterior.
Infrastructure, India builds over 30 kms or roads every day. India is the 3rd largest power producer and also the 3rd largest green energy producer.
Low quality workforce is another myth spread by the Chinese who are seeing many firms closing up and moving to Vietnam and India. India exported over US$1 billion in 5 months since Foxconn started to produce iPhone.

Ford or GM is only making money selling trucks in the US they have stopped producing sedans since they cannot compete with the Japanese or Korean manufacturers who make sedan locally in the US. Indian market is also experiencing the same with GM and Ford unable to compete with Japanese and Korean manufacturers.

Amazon is going to be investing a total of US$26 billion and is doing extremely well in India where it competes with Flipkart which is owned by Walmart there goes another myth. Poof

IBM downsizing is another myth. All tech companies follow cyclical pattern of hiring and laying off and attrition due to retirement and other causes. That’s the same in the US and Europe. When Malaysia does not produce any software or services it is hard to understand your ignorance about how IT industries work.

Elon is smart that is why he has revolutionized manufacturing of cars. The newer 3rd gen model which will be manufactured in Giga Mexico will be the first to do this. End of the year which Giga India will be announced, he will transfer Indians who work in Giga Texas and the Fremont factory to train and setup the factory.

There are thousands of students from India and American Indian kids who go to UT Austin, many of them who get opportunities to work for Tesla or Space X. Many of these Indian kids will eventually form the backbone for Giga India.
