As far as road closures go, this one is major. DBKL has announced that the Loke Yew roundabout and the Jalan Sungai Besi stretch heading to “Sg Besi/Petaling Jaya” (in front of Fraser Business Park) will be closed to all traffic for one year, starting from August 5, which is this Saturday. This is for the modification and building of a bridge at Bulatan Loke Yew.
As such, traffic from Bulatan Kg Pandan heading to Sg Besi/PJ will be diverted into two paths – a road next to the classic Federal Bakery and a contraflow lane (refer to Lampiran 1 below). Those from Sg Besi/PJ heading to Bulatan Kg Pandan will be diverted left (Lampiran 2).
With Bulatan Loke Yew closed, traffic from Cheras to Jalan Loke Yew will have to make a U-turn back to Cheras, and this is permanent. Those from Cheras wanting to head to Jalan Sungai Besi will have to use Jalan Chan Sow Lin and either one of Jalan Satu, Dua and Tiga.
If you want to go to Jalan Yew and its surroundings, make a U-turn at the flyover at Jalan Maharajalela – it’s quite a big detour. Refer to Lampiran 3A to 3C.
Moving on to those coming from Jalan Kinabalu. All traffic heading to Jalan Loke Yew and Jalan Sungai Besi will be diverted to Jalan Yew, towards Bulatan Pudu. An alternative is to make a U-turn at SMK(P) Pudu. This is permanent – refer to Lampiran 4A to 4D.
Lastly, for those coming from Jalan Yew (from Bulatan Kg Pandan direction) to go to Jalan Kinabalu and onwards to Jalan Kuching, there’s no more way through the roundabout. Instead, use Jalan Kg Pandan, Jalan Imbi and then Jalan Hang Tuah to head north (Lampiran 5).
To allow for the demolition of existing roads and the building of a bridge from Bulatan Pudu to Jalan Sungai Besi (next to Balai Polis Pudu), the lane from Jalan Pudu to Jalan Yew will be closed to traffic during the construction period. An alternative route is via Jalan Sungai Besi, Jalan Chan Sow Lin and Jalan Satu/Dua/Tiga – refer to Lampiran 6A/6B.
Major, right? If Bulatan Loke Yew is part of your daily commute, check out the images below and study them properly. Be prepared for a massive jam next Monday as many will be caught unawares.

That bulatan goes to more places than just downtown KL, this will affect mostly other routes.
Habislah that road has alwiz been jammed now with closure will jam even more creating more fury to the rakyat users. Lucky for them KL got no elections or else PH will surely be booted out!

Many folks,even after reading about the road closure,will be caught in a horrendous,massive jam for 365 days,except public holidays.
This useless dbkl alwsys have so call policies and implementations to make rakyat suffer, truly uselss

I know this might be impossible to DBKL (lack of common sense) but please provide more than enough road signs on these alternative routes
That part of the road is the worst traffic during peak hours. Now they decide to close it to make another bridge which don’t seem to lessen the existing traffic but merely to allow easier access for police cars which already always creating worst traffic as they on their sirens to make way even when there’s no emergencies.
When was the notice of closure made known to the public by the authorities? I only know now from here.
I hope the commitment of 1 year delivery will be upkeep by DBKL and the appointed contractors. In most instances, the top brass of DBKL might not be affected of this road closure, so, let’s hope a better monitoring of the progress.
Don’t understand about 4A, the car is coming from Jalan Kinabalu to Cheras. It can use flyover instead of turning left and making u-turn at Jln Yew, right? Unless the flyover is also closed, then the traffic jam would be…..
