Mass U-turn of vehicles at Raub bypass on Central Spine Road seen on video – police investigating

Footage has emerged over the weekend depicting what appears to be many vehicles making U-turns along the Raub Bypass section of the Central Spine Road (CSR), which was opened last month.

The occurrence has received the attention of the police, who are investigating and tracking down the drivers of the vehicles involved making said U-turns and going against the flow of traffic, Sinar Harian has reported.

For the time being, the police have yet to determine the registration number of the vehicle from which the video was recorded, however several vehicles have been identified following checks on the MySikap JPJ mobile application, said Raub district police chief superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman.

Other vehicles which were also involved in the mass U-turn on the highway, including the vehicle from which the video was recorded, are being tracked down for further investigation, the Raub district police chief said.

The 17 km section of the highway is said to be expected to save users 40 minutes of travel time, as they would no longer be required to pass through Raub on their journey towards the east coast of the peninsula. This occurrence of the mass u-turn appears to be due to the build up of traffic on the highway as motorists travel out of city centres for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.

Needless to say, the act of making a u-turn on the highway is not only against the law, but also dangerous as this also involves travelling against the flow of traffic until the exit, which will also be done against traffic as it is an on-ramp.

  • Road users thinking the road belongs to their grandfather. But to be fair, that traffic lights bypass Raub town to Klau/Sg Ruan traffic light was done without proper planning as well. The road were built new, why no plan to widen or make another flyover to ease the bottling up at the traffic lights? Everything were built new so why don’t JKR plan something properly and solve the unnecessary traffic build-up? Want to put in proposal for future rectification to get more budget is it? When the project was supposed to start anew didn’t the project team properly survey and do their work?

Road does belong to our grandfathers. In fact, the whole country. Remember this country’s pre-independence name?

  • No traffic cops manning junction of highway and the old road. Dunno why authorities and highway management never envisage huge traffic. Its common sense.
