According to data from the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), 71,162 vehicles were delivered to customers in the month of August 2024. This is marginally less than the 71,730 units sold in July 2024, or 0.8% in percentage terms.
On a year-to-year basis, the number of vehicles sold in August 2024 is just over 2% less than the 72,844 units recorded for the same month in 2023. On the flip side, the year-to-date (YTD) total this year at 533,301 units is nearly 6% higher the same January-August period last year, which saw 503,783 deliveries.
As for vehicle production, 73,966 vehicles rolled off assembly lines in August 2024, which is 9% more than in August 2023. Similarly, YTD vehicle production climbed 8% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same corresponding period in 2023 to hit 536,313 units.
Unlike its previous report for July 2024, the MAA did mention any predictions of what sales will be like for the month of September 2024. In July this year, the association revised its full-year forecast upwards from its original target of 740,000 units to 765,000 units. Based on the current YTD figure, we’re about 70% of the way there with four months left to go.
