2025 Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck to launch Oct 16

UPDATE: The all-new, third-generation Mitsubishi Triton has been launched in Malaysia, priced from RM102k to RM166k.

An all-new Mitsubishi Triton is coming, and the sixth-generation pick-up truck – the third generation to use the Triton name here – is set to see its Malaysian launch tomorrow, October 16, as announced by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM).

The order books for the new Triton opened in Malaysia at the start of this month, and there will be five variants of the model to be sold.

This ranges from the high-rider Triton Single Cab, which assumes the workhorse role form the previous Triton Quest low-rider double cab, all the way to the flagship variant, the Triton Athlete. Estimated pricing is from RM102k to RM170k for a limited time, the company said at its announcement.

Powertrains for the model begin with the 184 PS/430 Nm 4N16 2.4 litre VGT turbodiesel that is for the Single Cab variant, while the range-topping Athlete is likely to get the 204 PS/470 Nm version with two-stage turbocharging. For the base model, this represents gains of 74 PS and 230 Nm over the Triton Quest plus the addition of 4WD and a 6MT gearbox (five-speed previously), and 20 PS/40 Nm for the flagship Athlete.

The Triton grows in size for its latest generation, with the double-cab version becoming 55 mm longer, 115 mm wider and 35 mm taller to measure 5,360 mm long, 1,930 mm wide and 1,815 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm (130 mm longer). The single-cab version also touts the largest cargo bed in its segment, at 2,340 mm long and 1,580 mm wide.

Estimated pricing for the Triton at the upper end for the top Athlete variant will therefore undercut the Toyota Hilux, which reaches RM173,280 for the 2.8L GR Sport variant. Stay tuned for the all-new Mitsubishi Triton, as the Malaysian launch of the pick-up truck takes place tomorrow.
