Malaysia to roll out Euro 5 petrol in September 2025

Malaysia will begin rolling out Euro 5 petrol in September next year as part of a long-term initiative to improve air quality on a national level, Malay Mail reported citing Utusan Malaysia.

This will be followed by full implementation of the fuel by 2027, and it will comply with Environmental Quality (Control of Petrol and Diesel Fuel Contents) Regulations 2007, said minister of natural resources and environmental sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

“The adoption of Euro 5 petrol is a sustainable solution that will positively impact Malaysia’s air quality. The NRES and the Department of Environment (DOE) will work closely with industry players to ensure a seamless transition,” NIk Nazmi was quoted as saying.

Malaysia to roll out Euro 5 petrol in September 2025

The shift to Euro 5 petrol is likely to drive advancements in the local automotive sector, in the commercial and heavy industries in particular, where updated vehicle technology is essential.

The introduction of Euro 5 petrol in Malaysia was gazetted in 2015 by the ministry of natural resources and environment for introduction at pumps by September 1, 2025, and the availability of Euro 5 diesel was also gazetted at the same time for September 2020.

Quality of Euro 5 petrol will adhere to new standards for sulphur and lead, according to the ministry at the time. It also added that the remaining minimum standards for Euro 5 petrol such as Reid Vapour pressure, oxygen content, benzene, olefins, aromatics and more will be enforced in stages, throughout years 2026 and 2027.

Euro 5 diesel replaced the Euro 2M grade in April 2021, with the fuel’s introduction postponed due to constraints faced by various industries as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gomen should bring back RON 92 lah. Why force people to use higher octane fuel when majority of the cars in this country are low output NA and won’t knock. Those itchy backside with high HP cars can use RON 95/98. Pretty much all EFI cars with engine management can account for it. Of course if you drive a Euro/turbo car that specifies minimum RON 95/98, then that is part and parcel of buying those cars.

Always low hanging fruit that they go for here. How about regulating industry polluters and commercial vehicles by actually enforcing emissions regulations on them? All belching smoke up and down our roads – especially obvious on any modest incline. You can put Euro 6 fuel if you want in them but they are not well maintained and won’t burn the fuel optimally.

Fully agreed. Our SkyActiv the world highest compression engine also can run RON92 smoothly albeit lower power output and lesser fuel frugal compares to higher octane RON98 usage.

You’re not wrong, but you’re greatly misinformed. The SkyActive simply retard it’s ignition timing to cope with lower octane fuel in order to protect itself from knocking damage. That’s how useless lower octane fuel in modern engines. Any modern high-compression engines do the same trick to make themselves fool-proof from people like you.

Maybe this wonderful fuel is for ministers and maha rich high power output cars, never meant for normal rakyat.

All Toyota engines are designed to be able to run on minimum RON91. The secret is having a knock sensor for ECU to response.

Euro 5 is not related to RON 95/97, it is about the emission standard, other developed countries already use Euro 6d to reduce emission.

10 years ago our fuel used Euro 2. On year 2020, we updated to Euro 4 to reduce air pollution/pencemaran udara. Now will upgrade to Euro 5.

Can see that most of the commenters here doesn’t understand what is Euro 1/2/3/4/5/6 emission standards. It is not about fuel Octane No like RON 95/97/100.

Euro emission standard ni tak ada kaitan dgn harga minyak tahu tak?

Kita dah pernah upgrade dulu ke Euro 2. Kemudian Euro 4 pd tahun 2020. Akan datang ni upgrade ke Euro 5 untuk kurangkan pencemaran udara.

Masih Euro 4, dulu Euro 2, lepastu dah upgrade Euro 4.

Petrol belum upgrade Euro 5 lagi. Euro 5 hanya diesel dah upgrade (utk dua² jenis diesel nozzle warna hitam & biru).

Dulu diesel nozzle hitam Euro 2, warna biru Euro 5. Sekarang kedua² jenis diesel dah Euro 5.
