Isuzu has teased a new turbodiesel engine dubbed the MaxForce, a 2.2 litre unit that has been tipped to enter service with the D-Max pick-up truck and the MU-X three-row SUV.
The new 2.2 litre engine is based on the RZ4E 1.9 litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, though it will receive a new turbocharger along with its increased displacement. While exact power and torque figures have yet to be officially revealed, this will be a ‘more powerful’ and ‘faster’ unit, reported Headlight Magazine.
At present, higher-specification variants of the Isuzu D-Max are outfitted with the 4JJ3-TCX 3.0 litre turbodiesel that outputs 190 PS at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm to 2,600 rpm. While the new 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine will feature in both the D-Max and MU-X, it remains to be seen if this will supersede one of the two, or both existing engines.
In Malaysia, the 1.9 litre RZ4E-TC turbodiesel engine arrived in our market with the 2019 D-Max facelift, and this outputs 150 PS at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,800 rpm to 2,600 rpm, or increases of 10% and 9% in power and torque respectively over the previous 136 PS/320 Nm 2.5 litre turbodiesel engine.
The D-Max pick-up truck line-up in Malaysia currently gets both the 1.9 litre and 3.0 litre turbodiesel engines, and the range starts from RM99k for the 1.9L 4×4 single-cab, up to RM158k for the 3.0L 4×4 AT X-Terrain.
