VIP escort crashes into Saga on PLUS – PDRM waiting for Puspakom report to complete investigations

PDRM is waiting for a report from Puspakom to complete its investigation on the case involving a VIP police escort car crashing into a civilian vehicle at KM259 of the PLUS North South Highway last Saturday.

JSPT Bukit Aman director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri told Harian Metro that all those who were involved in the accident have had their statements recorded. “As soon as the investigation papers are complete, we will send it to the deputy public prosecutor for further action,” he told the daily today.

A dashcam video is making the rounds on social media, most possibly from the Proton Saga that was hit. It shows a PDRM Proton X70 clearing the way for a VIP convoy in rainy, low-visibility conditions. A dark-coloured vehicle with strobe lights then follows at speed, lane-splitting and hitting the Saga.

A child is then heard crying before the video cuts to the Saga’s badly-damaged rear. A white Toyota Camry, not seen in the dashcam footage, is also shown with a broken left headlamp.

We were told, we need to follow the speed limit, because the road were designed for that speed limit. However, we can always see that those so called “VIP” are not following the speed limit.
    I do not understand why???
I can understand VIP escort to clear the traffic, let them move smoother, but why they do not need to follow the speed limit? Those speed limit is just set for fun?

Exactly, everyone should follow the road traffic rule, VIP excort, ambulance, police, or fire trucks; no one should be exempted, but give priority.

  • Normally this won’t need puspakom but because VIP have the priviledge, we have to wait for Puspakom result.

Police escorts need to be more considerate of the public road users…case in point. Last Sunday on a not so busy KLIA highway towards the toll back to KL, we were minding our own business staying on a middle lane of an empty 3 lane highway and here comes a police escort forcing us to change lane to the far left lane instantly. This is really not necessary as the road was empty and we were not obstructing anyone and the road was clear. Clearly, these police escorts need to be very trained and respect the rights of other road users.

You should be travelling on the far left lane by default if the road is empty. I.e, most lane = normal lane, middle lane = fast lane, right lane = overtaking lane.

      Ikut kiri jika tidak memotong!

This one I sokong! After travelling thousands of kilometers on Malaysian highways, I noticed the most common problem of heavy traffic build-up is a stupid (really stupid) driver hogging the fast lane going on evening drive. Even on 4, 5, 6 lane highways, these slow siput make other drivers frustrated and impatient and I see vehicles potong kiri kanan these lane hoggers.
Road hogging is illegal in Malaysia. In other countries they saman you like hell. We need the same here.

why need to wait for puspakom? to check if tint is too dark? or brake got problem? under normal circumstances like the rakyat, we have been fined 300 on the spot already with the video as proof of reckless. and maybe need to go to court if someone is injured/ killed. so what so special now need puspakom..
