Volkswagen to overhaul entire EV line-up in 2026

Volkswagen will be heavily updating its ID range of electric vehicles in 2026 with a significant upgrade of its MEB architecture the models are based on, Autocar reported.

The revision to the line-up will begin with the launch of the ID 2 SUV concept in Munich next year, followed by a revamped Polo, said Volkswagen research and development chief Kai Grünitz. These emerge as the German manufacturer will further trim its range of internal combustion engines when the Euro 7 emissions regulations take effect from next year, Grünitz said.

Styling for the upcoming Volkswagen ID battery-electric models will be inspired by the ID.2all concept, and this look would be more akin “to what Volkswagen stands for” from a design perspective, Grünitz said, and also confirmed that development of the production version of the ID.2all concept continues to be on schedule for debut in late 2025 or early 2026.

This will be the starting point for Volkswagen, said Grünitz, “because customers will see there has been a change, and a much bigger change than expected.” An SUV version of the ID 2 will be previewed next year at the Munich motor show, and the slew of upcoming models will also include a GTI version of the ID 2, which has been shown in concept form last year.

Development of the Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) architecture will also continue, as this platform is considered the most significant for the Volkswagen Group in the long-term as it can underpin a wide range of vehicle types, from city cars to supercars, said Grünitz.

The looming Euro 7 emissions regulations would also result in “a line-up that is slimmer than today,” Grünitz said, though there would also be more mild-hybrid variants. The Polo would survive the cut, and the B-segment model would be extensively updated around the new regulations take effect, he added.

    VW must be kidding.
    What to overhaul?
They r overtaken badly by Chinese EVs,that by 2026 they need another bailout by their tariff driven madness.
Design wise, they r pathetically horribly ugly.
Just nailing the last nail on their own coffin by resorting to tariffs.
