Maextro S800 debuts – Huawei, JAC joint development aims to take on Rolls-Royce, Maybach; fr RM612k est

Maextro is the fourth brand in the Huawei-led Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), and the first model being presented is the S800, which made its debut during the recent Huawei Mate brand ceremony on November 26.

Expected to be priced between 1-1.5 million (about RM612k to RM918k), the luxury limousine is currently open for pre-sales in China, with buyers required to place down a deposit of 20,000 yuan (RM12k) if they are interested, reports CarNewsChina

What they are getting is a massive car that measures 5,480 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, 1,536 mm tall and with a wheelbase that spans 3,370 mm. According to Huawei’s CEO of consumer business group, Yu Chengdong, the S800 is claimed to be larger than 99.99% of models on the road in China and is positioned as a D+ class executive sedan.

For now, the company isn’t disclosing powertrain details but the lack of a conventional upper grille intake suggests the car will be all-electric. In terms of design, the S800 appears to be inspired by luxury offerings from European brands such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Maybach and Porsche that it aims to compete against.

Notable cues include a two-tone exterior paint finish, a front bumper that doesn’t skimp on the chrome in its lower section and large disc wheels. There are vertical headlamps that meet up with light bars and accompanied by star-patterned lighting, which is also applied to the full-width taillights and flush door handles.

The single teaser photo of the interior reveals a “starry sky” ceiling and a healthy serving of high-quality and premium materials. The two individual rear seats also indicate a four-seat layout, but we’ll only know more about what life is on the inside when the car officially goes on sale. As this was developed with input from Huawei, the S800 is expected to provide Level 3 self-driving capability – note the roof-mounted lidar.

Maextro is a collaboration between Huawei and JAC Group, with other members of HIMA being Aito (Seres Group), Luxeed (Chery) and Stelato (BAIC BluePark).

    • Few years ago, no one ever expect a Chinese carmaker can challenge the mighty Tesla. There is one thing people should learn by now; never underestimate the Chinese.

The only people that hates the communist are the elites in power that is scared to lose all their privileges and the low IQ sheeps that believes the elite’s crap. Peppa clearly is not a rich elite and that makes him a low IQ sheep. Pro Modi? Hahaha

You underestimate the power of nationalism in China. There is a reason why even the embarrassing HongQi sells and these are miles better cars than HQ and will only get better

Who said HongQi is selling well? HongQi has high demand but not everyone can get it. Only selected few can buy or mostly gifted the HQ flagship unit.

I didn’t say they are selling well, I said people buy it because of nationalistic fervour. That thing is ugly, low tech, is not even comfortable and frankly embarrassing. I know because many of my suppliers will use a HQ, even though they have 7 series, S Classes, to pick me up and I have sat in a few.

Anyway my point is these supposed “higher end” cars from China will get better and better

Who knows what the Chinese will achieve? This is just the beginning. Don’t be judgmental and biased.

Auto world production centers are in China due to their quality for money improvement and affordable costing to the mass of the world. British vehicles are dead since 60s, Americas going down, Germans and Italy are making outraging pricing autos.. will loose..the Korea will hang on and many small players try to start and many cannot stand..now is the time China is leading..
