Aion Hyper HT – ROI opened in Malaysia for electric SUV with Tesla Model X-styled falcon rear doors

Registrations of interest for the GAC Aion Hyper HT have opened in Malaysia, according to the brand’s post on Instagram. This follows the Malaysian preview of the Hyper HT which took place in May this year, and this is of the brand’s Hyper range of models – a sub-brand within the Aion sub-brand – aimed at taking the outfit further upmarket.

There’s more than a hint of inspiration drawn from Tesla, with the coupé-SUV look somewhat of the Model Y, while the ‘falcon’ rear doors clearly ape those of the Model X. The Hyper HT is closer to the latter in terms of size, however, measuring in at 4,935 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,700 mm tall.

The Hyper HT gets two RWD powertrain variants and four battery sizes – a single rear-mounted motor producing 245 PS/355 Nm, or 340 PS/430 Nm, enabling a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds and 5.8 seconds respectively.

The lower-output motor can be had with a 70 kWh or 72.7 kWh battery for CLTC-rated range figures of 550 km and 600 km, and the higher-output powertrain gets a 80 kWh or 99.5 kWh for range figures of 670 km and 825 km.

The more powerful variants of the Hyper HT get an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling DC charging that gains 425 km of range from just 15 minutes of charging. The more modestly specified variants get 400-volt architecture, which can replenish 140 km of range in 10 minutes of DC charging.

Inside, the cabin of the Aion Hyper HT follows EV convention of using a larger tablet-style infotainment screen as its centrepiece, with a 14.6-inch touchscreen unit accompanied by a slimmer, 8.8-inch digital instrumentation display located higher relative to the steering wheel, a la Peugeot.

There’s no Malaysian pricing just yet for the GAC Aion Hyper HT, though as a reference, the electric SUV was given introductory pricing in Thailand in April starting from 1,999,900 baht (RM257,000).
