Works ministry estimates that RM312 million is needed to repair flood-damaged roads across the country

The recent wave of floods across the country have not just displaced many people and inundated homes, buildings and vehicles, but has also wreaked havoc on vital infrastructure.

According to the works ministry, the total cost to repair roads nationwide damaged by floods has been estimated at RM312.1 million as of December 11.

Works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this comprises RM247 million needed for federal road maintenance, RM40.3 million for federal slope repairs and RM24.8 mil for state roads. However, he said the final cost has yet to be determined and the ministry is still assessing the extent of the damage and repair costs, Bernama reports.

“The final cost will be submitted soon. My team and I have been on the ground helping those affected by the floods. Earlier, we activated disaster operation rooms at the ministry level. “Based on experience, the ministry is better prepared for the floods this year,” he said.

Just divert allocations from non-productive, non-economic generating, non-livelihood contributing areas.

  • Lets look at the numbers: 312m just for the roads. Imagine the numbers for private businesses and local councils to support those impacted. Are we looking at another 300m at least? 600m can be channelled in a year to dig deeper drains, deeper rivers, more retention ponds, pumps and water routes! Come on, Madani. Nak x nak only.
