A further three routes of the GoKL free bus service will require non-Malaysian users to pay a fare for the bus service beginning in January, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has announced.
The exclusion of foreigners from enjoying the bus service free-of-charge has already been in place from the end of 2023, beginning with four routes – 01 (Green), 02 (Purple), 03 (Red) and 04 (Blue). This now extends to a further three lines; Route 05 (Orange), Route 06 (Pink), and Route 08 (Maroon), which takes effect from January.
“Non-citizens will be charged RM1 per journey, with payment accepted only through cashless methods, including Touch ‘n Go cards, QR codes, or credit and debit cards,” DBKL said in a statement. Meanwhile, Malaysians holding a MyKad linked to the Touch ‘n Go system will continue to enjoy free rides. Each user’s MyKad needs to be registered to retain the benefit of free-of-charge rides on GoKL buses, however.
The city hall added that GoKL services will remain free of charge for all children aged 12 and younger, regardless of citizenship. MyKad registration for this purpose has commenced on December 15, and can be carried out at locations including Hentian Akhir Titiwangsa, Universiti LRT Station (East), and Hentian One Maxim from 7am to 12pm and from 2pm to 7pm (Monday to Friday), according to the statement by DBKL.
A fourth location is Jabatan Pengangkutan Bandar, Menara DBKL 2 where an additional registration counter will be set up, and this is operational from 9am to 12pm, and from 2pm to 4pm (Monday to Friday), the statement added.

Now BhoomiRaja Banggalah must be very pissed off cannot ride KL free bus anymore KeK
That’s a shame. This free bus benefitted low paid foreign workers and tourist both of which contributed to KL economy. Now by having to scan the cards, this will slow down the service.
