Police issued 95,298 summonses for red light running from Jan-Nov 2024 – car drivers caught the most

From January to November this year, a total of 95,298 summonses were issued against road users nationwide for running a red light. This is according to statement by Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

“The offence of running red lights is a serious violation of traffic regulations and has the potential to cause fatal accidents,” he said. “JSPT will not compromise on those who violate the rules. Stricter monitoring and enforcement will be carried out at hotspot locations. CCTVs will also be upgraded at primary intersections to ensure that any offences are detected and perpetrators arrested immediately,” he added.

Of the 95,298 summonses issued in the first 11 months of 2024, car drivers recorded the highest number with 44,889 summonses issued, followed by motorcyclists (39,468), lorry drivers (3,937) and other vehicles (7,004).

Mohd Yusri said JSPT is also collaborating with other government agencies, including local authorities, to ensure that red light violations are acted on under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The penalty, if found guilty, is a fine of not less than RM300 and not more than RM2,000.

In conjunction with the ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship, Mohd Yursi called on road users and the community to always display a responsible attitude as well as comply with the rules and instructions of the authorities to enhance the country’s image.

Why car driver recorded higher summonses than motorcyclists? Simple, car is a larger vehicle & easier to catch, also motorcyclist number plates are harder to read and may not even follow JPJ rules.

  • Weird that car drivers were caught the most. Every single day I can see those green and pink motorcyclists run the red lights with no consequences.

Correction….the delivery riders are the ones that should get the summons exceeding cars..Just wait at any traffic junction, before the light turns green…these bastard riders are speeding faster than the injured Michael Shumacher.
By right 100,000 summons should be added to the figures, but the enforcement is simply not there.
Why cant the local councils work with PDRM/JPJ to fix CCTVs that can capture the offending morons?
The police should focus on rempits, dangerous overtaking, etc.

LOL those traffic lights awas camera failed miserably to capture these motorcycles having obstructed vision on number plate, number plate purposely removed alphabet and digit.

Should hustle up to implement the motorcycle size smart plate similar to new EV smart plate

  • Cars caught the most cause motorcyclists mostly run free after running the red light. Cars hard to run and escape pursuit in traffic jam.

Quite peculiar to see car drivers score the most red light violations whereas everyday we see riders running the red lights like it is a normal thing to do.

Something amiss when car driver caught breaking the red light the most either they look the other way particularly to delivery guys or else.

  • Car drivers? You’re having a laugh. Come to Klang and you can see motorcyclists are the ones ignoring traffic lights like it’s a nuisance to them. We, car drivers, are the ones to be extra cautious going through traffic lights.
