Op Mengejut Puspakom conducted by JPJ to ensure vehicles inspected comply with required standards

The road transport department (JPJ) conducted Op Mengejut Puspakom nationwide today, December 30 to ensure that vehicles inspected at Puspakom inspection centres comply with required standards, Bernama has reported.

The operation was carried out without prior notice given to Puspakom, following instructions by transport minister Anthony Loke who directed JPJ to implement enforcement in phases, said JPJ senior enforcement director Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan.

“The first phase involved roadblocks conducted by JPJ on selected highways, while the second phase was spot checks at Puspakom,” the senior enforcement director said following the operation at Puspakom Wangsa Maju, according to the report.

Within two hours of the operation, the team that was comprised of 350 officers and personnel had inspected 115 lorries, issued 69 summonses and took action against 29 vehicles, and had seized five cars and two lorries, the report wrote. Several offences by lorry drivers were identified, including the use of unsafe, worn-out retreaded tyres, Muhammad Kifli said.
