Congratulations Rengam and Layang-Layang, you now have nice new train stations. KTM has announced a switch of operations from the current temporary Rengam and Layang-Layang stations to new stations in the respective towns, effective 4am this morning, January 21. The new stations are just slightly ahead of the temporary ones.

The switch is for the migration of the Gemas-Johor Bahru double tracking project. In May 2024, the ETS – which was originally from Padang Besar in the north to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan in the south – made its debut in Segamat, the first time ETS was available in Johor.

Looks like there’s good progress and it has reached further south to Layang-Layang now. The small town is 70 km away from JB.

The Gemas-JB electrified double-tracking rail project is supposed to be completed this year. It’s 192 km long and has 11 stops crossing four major districts in Johor, including Segamat, Kluang and Kulai before terminating at JB Sentral. It is said that the journey from KL Sentral to JB Sentral will take three hours and 30 minutes. Once completed, one can take the ETS all the way from JB to Padang Besar at the Thai border.
