Geely has re-entered the Indonesian market with the EX5 electric SUV, which is the twin to the Proton eMas 7. The electric SUV has previously arrived in Thailand also as the Geely EX5.
For the Indonesian market, it’s available in two variants – the EX5 Max and the EX5 Pro. Pricing for the republic has yet to be announced at launch, and will be revealed at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS 2025) in February.
Also officially announced, the Geely EX5 for Indonesia will be made at the new PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) plant in Bekasi, West Jawa, and production will begin in the second quarter of this year. As part of the brand’s re-entry into the market, Geely will be opening a sales and servicing network of 100 dealers within three years.
This timeline of Indonesian assembly of the EX5 means the Geely-branded model will likely roll out from the Bekasi, West Jawa plant before local assembly of the Proton eMas 7 begins in Malaysia, as CKD plans for the national brand’s EV have yet to be announced. Currently, the eMas 7 is fully imported (CBU) from China. It was also announced that the Flyme Auto OS-powered infotainment system for the Indonesian-market EX5 will feature “Halo Geely” voice command function that supports Bahasa Indonesia inputs.
Being the global version of the Galaxy E5, the EX5 gets the same powertrain which is a single, front-mounted drive motor producing 218 PS and 320 Nm, propelling the SUV from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The Geely EX5 gets the Aegis short-blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery in two sizes; a 49.52 kWh battery provides up to 345 km of range, while a 60.22 kWh battery enables the vehicle to travel up to 410 km on a single charge, and this can extend to 430 km when specified with 18-inch wheels instead of the 19-inch units; range figures for both are based on the WLTP testing standard.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Indonesia immediately gets AACP. What gives? Why Proton has to wait a few months for AACP to be incorporated into the car? No wonder Geely launch the EX5 in markets that could have been covered by Proton. Indonesia starts local assemply before Proton. Something is not well with Proton? Afterall, Proton says they jointly developed the E5 but they have no say on production.
