KTM enhancing security measures in high-risk areas to curb track trespassing following fatal incident

Rail operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) says it is enhancing security measures in high-risk areas by deploying more auxiliary police personnel to prevent future track trespassing. This comes after a fatal trespassing incident earlier this week, in which a man was killed and four others sustained minor injuries after they were struck by a KTM Komuter train at KM 34.734, between Teluk Pulai and Klang.

In a statement, KTM CEO Mohd Zain Mat Taha said the company will engage further with the land public transport agency (APAD) to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations and enhance law enforcement at operational premises, Bernama reports.

“This is part of our efforts to strengthen existing laws and curb trespassing incidents. Passenger safety and seamless train operations remain our top priorities,” he said. He added that authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident, in which KTM Komuter train 2110, which departed from Jalan Kastam Station at 6.39 am on Tuesday, was forced to halt operations for over an hour after the collision.

A total of 200 passengers were affected and were transported to Klang Station, accompanied by auxiliary police officers and KTMB staff. They then boarded a shuttle bus to Subang Jaya Station to continue their journey. A back-up locomotive was dispatched to tow the train to allow for the removal of the body, enabling train services to resume normal operations.

The rail operator apologised for the incident and urged the public to be aware of the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks.
